I was shocked that the HD 6XX sounded so underwhelming. Pretty much every headphone from $100 up in my arsenal sounds better than these. What a huge disappointment.
liorzeI plugged the HD 6XX into several amplifiers.
.
For solid state amplifiers, I listened with JDS Labs Atom, Monoprice Liquid Spark, Schiit Magni 3, and Ray Samuels Emmeline XP-7.
.
For tube amplifiers, I listened to them though a Little Dot I+ (LT1364 opamp and Sylvania Gold Brand GB-408A tubes).
.
The source for each amp was Emotiva XDA-2 and Schiit Modi 3 DACs.
HottysonAt almost half the price, the Beyerdynamic DT-990 sound better.
When comparing them to other headphones, all of the following headphones sounded better than the HD 6xx:
Grado SR325e
Grado SR225e
Grado SR225
Beyerdynamic DT-990 (250-ohm)
Beyerdynamic DT-880 (2003)
Sony MDR-CD780
Cooler Master MH-752
Beyerdynamic DT-770PRO (80-ohm)
exxrhas nothing to do with preference, he is used to crappy sound and thinks this Grado junk is sounding decent...
Such people shouldn't write reviews at all.
oluv"Such people shouldn't write reviews at all." You need to take a bit of your own advice. Your reviews are the most inept on the entire fucking internet...nice production value, though.
exxrI think you are onto something there. I have been listening to Beyerdynamic headphones for almost two decades and Grado headphones for over a decade. My ears have really gotten used to what they do well. I probably should listen to the Sennheiser HD6XX for a few more years or at least a full year before posting my thoughts on them. I do like the build quality so far. I hope I start hearing what everyone else is hearing in the Sennheiser HD6XX. The headphone that I have listen to more than any over my lifetime was the Sennheiser HD280. I recommended it to everyone I know as the best under $100 closed headphone to purchase. However, it's days are past and I no longer enjoy it compared to most of my headphones and I instead replaced it with the Cooler Master MH-751 MH-752. Perhaps my personal preference has changed and found it's comfortable spot amongst Grado and Beyerdynamic.
