Product Description
There’s a reason 10-ounce denim is one of the most popular denim weights around. It offers a great balance of durability and comfort in all kinds of weather, and it breaks in a whole lot quicker than its heavier counterparts Read More
Hey Friends,
Following the success of our Ichiban launch last year, we’ve been working with Naked & Famous on a few new exclusive denims for the Massdrop community.
Where the Ichiban is a great jean to get if you’re an aspiring Raw Denim enthusiast, it’s still 100% cotton (none of the stretch comfort that most have become accustomed to) and heavy by mainstream standards at 13.75oz.
Feedback from those who purchased the Ichiban and took part in the discussion pulled in two opposite directions. One group of enthusiasts wanted us to go deeper; heavier fabrics, more adventurous. Another group of enthusiasts wanted a casual, lighter denim for summer, which would also make a great gift for friends or family members to start their enthusiast journey.
The Karui is 10.5oz raw denim with 2% Elastane. The result is a denim which is lighter and more immediately comfortable than any raw denim we’ve offered, but still retains much of the desirable fade potential through rope dying. We’re excited to offer this to the community with a ship date just in time for summer.
Thanks for your interest in this drop and I’ll see about posting some fade pictures soon (nothing dramatic, we’ve only had this sample for a couple months, but these are showing all the right signs for rich fades after a few months of use).
how do you make these worth owning?
honestly ive grabbed selvege from Uniqlo for $30 made in cambodian slave factories with better fit results but Naked and Famous’s Canadian slave labour is jacked up and they made me feel fat. I want to give them a chance but rn this paper feels like cardboard.
Soko Mr. Madison, what you just said is one of the most insanely idiotic things I have ever heard. At no point in your rambling, incoherent response, were you even close to anything that could be considered a rational thought. Everyone in this room is now dumber for having listened to it. I award you no points, and may God have mercy on your soul.
iamlilysdadYeah, I've never had a zipper break on me, not even on a $20 pair of Target-brand jeans. And a really good YKK zipper won't catch or bind.
I don't particularly care about the heritage of a button fly. They're a pain, and obsolete. Didn't realize that denim enthusiasts were such hipsters...
I wish you made more Easy Guy fit products. For those of us, specifically me, who ski & play soccer thigh diameter is quite snug thus uncomfortable & difficult to move.
I love how this discussion board has become a mechmarket-esque trading hub of people who purchased the wrong size and want to trade for a different one.
Tags from the outside and inside say size 29 (Equivalent to 31" waist). I got the same size as the ichiban, and these more comfortably. The elastane and lighter oz helps for the summer.
sztoMine just arrived. I got a size 30 thinking it was a 32", which is slightly roomy, but would still fit decently.
Instead they are definitely tight. The 30s seem like a true-to-size 30". Some of the other comments in the thread indicate issues with smaller sizes as well.
Exactly what I was hoping to avoid... I do appreciate you passing your experience along though mate.
Thanks to Massdrop for exchanging my original size 34 for size 36!!!!!
I followed the sizing chart, and ordered size 34, since I normally wear size 36. They fit, but they were way tighter than I like, so I contacted MD. It took a few days, but they eventually responded by telling me they were sending the new pair immediately, and also included pre-paid postage for the return pair too!
I should note I only removed the 34s from the bag and tried them on - I did not remove any tags or labels and told MD this when I contacted them.
I was very impressed that MD sent out the new pair before I had even mailed the return in.
The size 36 arrived yesterday and I love the fit so much better.
I have heard many complaints about MD, but honestly, other than one canceled deal, and a delivery of a knife with the not advertised steel (which MD did a great job compensating for), I have had really great experiences here. Sure, I do my research, and sometimes I end up buying an item I found here, elsewhere, but what I truly respect is that MD will even let you post that in the comments.
Thanks again MD for turning a disappointing $100 purchase into a really satisfying, first time Selvage, experience!!!!
AdicusBetter service than what I got when I ordered a pair of N&F weird guys from their website. I had the exact same thing but mine were too large. Good job Massdrop!
Speaking from personal experience (I've worn these jeans a few times now), they fit pretty true to size. I'm 6"3, about 195 pounds, and have a 33-inch waist, and I found that the 34's that I was wearing were a bit large on me. I had to wear a belt to keep them up (and I'm a runner, so i've got plenty of thigh to fill these out). If I had gone down to a 32, they probably would fit a little too snug (and definitely would get a bit tighter after the first wash). Keep in mind, these do have Elastane in them, so they don't have that typical tight fit that your average raw denim is going to have. They feel like they're about 6 months broken in right out of the gate. Hope that helps!
paulingrambQuestion: you say you have a 33-inch waist and found the 34's... are you consistently referring to waist measurement or size (two different things)?
Just received mine. Unfortunately the sizing chart didn't really match my expectations. I ordered a size 29 looking for a 31in waist, but this doesn't come close to fitting.
Yeah same here. Seems like they are true to size. size 30 = 30". Not 32" like the fit guide.
So everyone probably ordered small thinking they would be larger. @Will can you review the feedback here on the sizing? Seems like a lot of folks are having fit issues.
CoffeegrooveI felt the same way and had planned to remove my tag - but last week I bought a pair of stretch selvedge at a local retailer and realized that my belt covers it, so I may not need to worry about it. "Naked and Massdrop" doesn't bother me, but a naked chick on my jeans just seems like really bad taste.
onodurasAll the N&F stuff has the logo on the tag. Besides you’ve really got to be looking for it to find it, unless of course you don’t wear a belt and tuck your shirt in.
