The cable on my MJ 2s now only allows for sound on the left channel. Recently, I noticed the metal sleeve at the jck end sliding, exposing some wiring and now the cable is useless. I have written to Mitchell & Johnson asking for a replacement. Has anyone used an alternative cable, and if so, which and to what effect? I find that the fit is such that the headband does not sit comfortably. My headshape seems to be such that the headphones are too large. If anyone has had this problem have they used an additionl band to pad the gap?
pdetollyBroke my cable too, also contacted M&J, they apparently don't make those anymore...
I have a workaround that won't really do if you're a music purist but works if you know nothing at wiring. You can get basically two "standard" stereo cables, tape them together and plug them to a jack splitter. It keeps the stereo audio and works okay. I didn't notice any quality loss but I'm definetely not a true audiophile and pretty much listen to my music exclusively on streaming services.
Alternatively, I just tried HiFiMan cables (HE4XX replacement cables) and those won't work out of the box, but if you know how to rewire a cable and rewire the headphone-side tips they might do the trick.
If the headphones are too large you could try swapping the pads for Brainwavz ones, they are comfier but more importantly thicker, it might allow the headphones to put more pressure on your jaws.
NiidI wrote to Mitchell & Johnson and they were unable to offer either a replacement cable or repair service. An online hunt yielded David Choy of Triton Audio Cables (tritonaudiocables@gmail.com) and he understands the M&J 2s and offered replacement balanced and single cables. The balanced work perfectly with my Onkyo dap but the single is underpowered with my LG V20 phone. Be sure to tell him what your listening devices are. He is very helpful and his cables are beautifully made and, I think, reasonably priced.
