Bought mine here 1.5 years ago.
At first the bass was all over the place, really terrible sounding, but after burn-in they sounded really nice - warm but leaving clarity and room for the rest. I didn't used to believe in burn-in, I guess I do now.
About a week ago the cable started shorting out between L+R unless held in a particular angle. I expected a $70 pair of earphones to last longer. I treat my stuff well, before these had a pair of Klipsch S4 that lasted ~4 years.
Contacted support, but since they are out of warranty, I'm not optimistic.
tl;dr -
thumbs up for sound (after burn in)
thumbs down for build quality
I got mine on the exact shipping day, so I started off happy, but that was short-lived. As soon as I got them out of the box and tried them, there was a problem with the jack. The sound would get all static-y whenever the jack was twisted in my device the slightest bit. I contacted Massdrop and they directed me to the Optoma Customer Service. I ended up getting another pair shipped to me after over a month. My replacement pair lasted me about 3 months, and after that, the same problem began happening and eventually the left driver just died all together. I am going to return these again and hopefully get my money back.
My NE800M from the November drop are still holding up so ordered the next model down, the NE750Ms for my son, they lasted all of one week before the left driver failed....hassle free replacement by Optoma but yet to be used.
Just myself submitted a customer support ticket for these.
Sound dropped out on the left ear.
My years older Sennheiser CX 300-II in comparison are still going strong.
This is totally not worth the price. After 1 month 2 weeks from receiving it, the the wire at the plug area broke off internally literally can't play any sound. Reported and got an exchange received it probably about one or 2 weeks ago. Today, the replacement right earpiece blew out after i accidentally raised volume close to maximum on Samsung Note 5. Disappointing product. Dont get it. I wont even consider it to have undergone heavy usage. Notice : I did not even drop it once. For those who are rich and can afford a few of this, you are better off getting a shure not the one provided by Massdrop. Poorer ones, i recommend you to get other earpiece just not this one. Right Now, i am trying for an exchange of products or another replacement.
I've had mine for 5 months and they were great until all the bass on the right driver went away, seems like a cord issue. Be careful if you buy them, it seems like they are not made to stand up to heavy wear.
I'm very satisfied with these buds. I let them burn in by leaving them on with music playing overnight for 3 consecutive evenings. The sound opened up considerably, they are still somewhat bass heavy but very detailed and involving. In fact they are not dull and the treble can be a little sharp on poorly mastered recordings.
I can listen without any fatigue for long periods with the comply tips. I would call them a bargain at this price. The fit and finish are excellent and I don't think they will fail any time soon. Granted I haven't put them in the washer, and I store them in the case when I'm not using them. The tangle-free cord works well too. I would recommend them to my friends.
Man, really disappointed with these. The real value of these are like 30$ at best. The cable is awful, gets caught everywhere and the earphones themselves are so heavy, they fall out real easily when the cable is tugged. Sound quality is on par with some 20$ pairs. Oh well...
