brianwang76Massdrop does not deal with used items.
It's new, but international spec, so you will not have a warranty. You will have Massdrop's 30 day coverage for DOA and defective merchandise.
What mount type is this lens? I know Olympus generally makes m4/3 mounts but I don't see anything calling m4/3s specifically. Also, does the lens offer any stabilization?
Yes, if your body has its own stabilization you wouldn't likely want the lens to be separately stabilized...not sure if those can play nice together or not, especially from different brands.
I got this lens here and then found same lens brand new (also international) on Ebay with free shipping for $840.
Moral - do your research, just because you are here it doesn't mean bargain.
cheapbutgreatThat seller on ebay had very high rating and no complaints whatsoever. It also showed that they already sold a couple of hundred of these lens. So I would not consider it high risk.
I also have experience buying other lens from ebay from similar company and I never had any trouble. All you have to worry about is the time it takes for the package to arrive via international mail.
I am not saying that you should buy everything elsewhere, just don't assume that everything is a bargain just because it is listed here on MassDrop
BobLYes. Lenses for mirrorless systems may rattle because of their designs, that must meet requirements for contrast detection. Sigma lenses for some mirrorless systems rattle even more.
Mario.IvanYes. If you need/want image stabilization, then this lens is not for you (and you probably do - at least in the tele end of things). Otherwise, it is a great lens!
I’ve bought this lens and it arrived perfectly packed in pristine condition. The lens behaves as expected: just fine. Two points small remarks: I am in Europe so custom clearance fees were applicable. And, the lens arrived in a box which suggested it contained a Olympus M. Zuiko Digital 1.4x Teleconverter but it didn’t. Will there be a massdrop for the converter soon?
reclameMassdrop previously had a drop for the teleconverter. Find the old drop and indicate your interest and they might revive it. I don't know why they didn't include the TC as an option for this drop.
I understand that this lens does not have an Olympus U.S.A. Warranty. But if the lens needs repair in the future will Olympus repair it at my expense, or will they just refuse to repair an “international spec” lens? And is this the same as Grey market?
FrankEInternational spec is grey market. If you are concerned, purchase a 3rd part warranty (e.g., Square Trade). Total cost is still cheaper than a new one.
HalemaumauUsually $0. The only time I ever paid customs was for set of sterling silver flatware that I bought for a relative, when I flew back from Italy.
