Received mine today. Beautiful watch. And the dial is more of a matte cream rather than bright white. The pictures on Massdrop don't do the dial justice.

First selling point mentioned in the copy: "For one, its polished indices and two-toned hands twinkle when the watch is held at different angles." Yup, twinkling hands are right up there at the top of my list when looking for a dress watch: "Say Bob, show Martha how your hands twinkle." Then there's this informative bit of watch-expert repartee: "Another unique feature is the power reserve indicator spanning from 11 to 1 o’clock...The indicator provides a reading of the remaining battery life on the 40N52 automatic movement." Always damn handy to know how much battery life you have left in your automatic watch! Note to MD: assign these phone toting, never owned a watch, generation Snap Chat children to the Board Games & Mechanical Keyboard Community and hire someone who knows less about twinkle and more about frig'n watches!

Note to MD: Bought the hamster-in-a wheel "automatic movement" last drop; really love'n it! Only down side is that you have to water it once a day and sometimes it makes squeaky noises (that and the pile of little brown pellets I find on the nightstand each morning)--but it does keep excellent time. Thanks for the recommendation!

Comments aren't the measure of anything but an interest in the subject matter and one's typing skills--hell even you can Comment! The stats that count the most are the ones a member has no control over (Peer Endorsements, Comments Saved (by others), Followers (mine are mostly bill collectors and the FBI), and the total number of Moderator Locked Conversations--I believe I hold that record. But to tell you the truth, the coolest thing about MD, and the one thing there are no stats for, are the good friends one can meet here. We don't need numbers for that--we know who we are, and we have about as much fun as you can have smearing pixels around on a computer screen. MD's got its ruff spots, and I do give 'em a lot of shit about it, but they're work'n within their means, and some days are better than others. But the members are generally a decent bunch 'o folks--I don't know how you got in here, but I mean, generally their okay. Kidd'n! You're probably okay too ;- )

Just to get some more info out there, I have the model with silver case and gold markers. The dial is not white, it is cream. I really like mine as it does turn white under different lighting conditions and gets really cream coloured in others. Beautiful watch!
But if you are one of those folks who can stand anything off white, then caveat emptor!

No, no, no! First, that thing still has a Roman numeral at the 12:00 o'clock position! That puts it squarely into the pretentious category, and right out of the Mad Men cool realm. And second, just look at that hideous case! Noting Sixties-dressy about that thing! Here check out Worn & Wound's review of the Classic for a better feel of the subject: https://wornandwound.com/review/orient-star-classic-review/

I would remove those Roman numerals at 6 and 12, they don't belong to this type of a dial.

@czaharia whines below that MD "has to do better" regarding the price, to which I say, The hell they do! "Had" is one of those annoying little terms that in the world of watch deals is second only to "Out of Stock", and as of today, both terms apply equally to Long Island Watch--or as Audrey Hepburn once said to Humphrey Bogart: "Yes, they have no Bananas, they have no Bananas today!"

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GCS1frMC004 Meanwhile, here in the present day, the only price comparisons anyone is interested are today's prices--the current ones, the price one will pay this moment, right now, immediately! But thanks anyway for the history lesson. Speaking of history, this is the very same watch MD once infamously described as having a power indicator that referenced the battery level on this automatic watch! Glad to see that little bit of history has been revised. As to the watch, there's nothing really bad to say about it (the "Star" designation means it's one of Orient's top-of-the line offerings). The case is on the small side at 38mm, but all my slender-wristed friends tell me that's not small, that's "Classic" size (and who am I to argue?). Still, I think it's only fair to warn you--if you're looking for a nice wooden box, this ain't no Ingersoll! So, all that out of the way, if you like it, if it's your cup of tea, you should buy it. It's a pretty good watch offered here for about the same price you'll find elsewhere (don't let five or ten bucks up or down keep you waiting for another six months). However, if you insist on paying the absolute minimum, and you're the trusting sort, you can save fifteen bucks through Walmart affiliate "pass the watch" using this link: https://www.walmart.com/product/811750468/sellers If you'd like a closer look before committing, here's a nice video walk around provided by Orient's US guy: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Jwt28nZ6jkk And here's a review of the same-ish watch, (has a different dial, but the same specs and guts): https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=fqXQyskLjzg And one more here: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=CaqHUaW8kPw

Reminds me of the Squale GMT Tropic Ceramica I saw from a seller on eBay who wanted $3000 because it was a "Limited Edition" and "Not available in USA". So I went to Gnomon (for whom it's made exclusively) and its listed at 790 I think. Kinda ridiculous that eBay doesn't regulate scammy sellers like that.

I just started this "watch habit" thing. It's my third watch and I LOVE it. I like the kinda dated look and the raised dome. Classy looking to me, but casual at the same time! The downfall everyone says is the 21mm band. I was able to find a "custom" made leather strap made to my order (21/18) for $43. Out of the country, it took 15 days to get it - two days after Massdrop delivered my watch. Get this ... my other (more expensive watches are of +12 & +15 spd - the Bambino is off +1 spd.

That should read "Orient USUALLY make very durable watches". However a batch of Orient Trooper watches had an issue with the date/time adjustment. Having said that, Massdrop did a brilliant job on the eventusl refund and I then bought an Orient Ranger which is fine.
