I would not do this again, actually Not sure I will ever purchase again. For the first mmystery drop I joined, then during the process I was kicked out of the drop, because it was sold out, then more were opened and people who were not kicked out got to join, before others who had already tried, then it was full again.
This time I felt that what was represented in the drop was not quite what was sent. The $100 value was questionable and 2 of the three things that I recieved were not useful for quilting at all and a third was only a single use epp pattern for a 20” block. While quilting related, not very useful.
I know that the statement was that they were new items, but these had been offered many times, the linen even had mass drop ribbon on it, and I felt that I was just sent stuff that didn’t sell and needed clearing out.
i feel like if you are going to send items that are not specificly quilting you should add them in as extras, a “hey we know this is a little different, but we thought you might like to try something new” kind of an incentive—NOT as the basis for what was purchased in the first place.
Hi All,
I've been following the discussion on this drop really closely. It seems like some people were happy and a fair amount were not. Some like the idea of a mystery box, some don't. Linen fabric was not a hit but the scissors were. Patterns were mostly a hit.
The first box we did was a really great deal and to be completely honest and the idea came about as a way to help move through some inventory that we accumulated. We didn't have enough inventory to do a second box that was like the fist time so this one included mostly new items. Trying to keep the cost down with a high value proved to be difficult but I know that we were successful in that area. There were call outs that the value was not $100 but as we built the boxes I took that into careful consideration. The full retail on the items when added up did equal a minimum of $100.
At this point I would love feed back if we should do it again. Thumbs up to a yes. All comments welcome!
I got the linen fat quarter bundle, Mettler thread, flower head pins, the violet craft lion EPP, and the mini Karen Kay scissors. Fun, except I don't know what to do with the linen, and I'm actually making the lion EPP right now. Anyone interested in trading anything?
UtahWell, I will say that I'm very new to quilting, so I have a small stash of fabric, a fair amount of notions, way too many sewing machine needles (which I bought here, haha), and a moderate amount of thread (most of which I bought here). And not very many patterns.
This was in my box. Thirteen fat quarters, glass head pins, Perfect Scissors, black Mettler thread, and a unicorn pattern. The only thing I'm not jazzed about is the unicorn pattern. Thanks Massdrop!
I wasn't thrilled, so probably won't do a mystery again. The fabrics are very modern, geometric, and not at all my style. Got another rotary cutter, and some glass head pins, which I don't need. The thread is a nice eggshell, so that will work well. I got a EPP Pattern -- I DO NOT DO EPP, and would not have ordered if I even thought that was a possibility. I really wanted the cute puppies!! LOL The box didn't have $100 value to me - but it is the gamble that makes it fun!
My second mystery quilting box from Massdrop. Garden Path 13 FQ bundle, Tulsa pink 4 in microtip scissors, clover glass head pins, blueish gray nettled thread, and BJorn Bear Quilt pattern.
Not bad. Wish the fabric was more modern but I’m sure I’ll get a use out of it. Might turn them into kitchen towels or napkins. Thankfully the thread is a light enough color that I’ll actually be able to use it . Got what I paid for but definitely not over $100 worth. Wish I got the Karen K Buckley scissors though (either size). I’m not a Tulia pink hardware fan- my Cheap hardware far out preforms my Tulia hardware. 🤭
Might buy again. The first box was definitely worth far more even though I gifted about half of it. Just please mass drop you know you are opening it for a max of x number of boxes and you know you sell out. Start packing them before you open the drop. Two months before shipping plus another week in transit is a REALLY long time to wait for something that costs more then a couple dollars .
I'm okay with my box. I got 15 FQs of Lecien fabric, some nice big Karen K Buckley scissors (which I'm excited to try), black Mettler thread, pins, and Lisa the Unicorn pattern. I would have been happier with the 27 FQs of modern fabric instead. I'll probably pass next time, but it was worth a try. I had ordered it mainly because so many people I knew were so pleased with their mystery boxes last time.
Well, life does get in the way -- I appologize for not following up on my post. I have misplaced the box with the fabric in it! I will locate it soon - I HOPE this weekend. I am so sorry!
Well, I almost got the photo above. I got the dachshund pattern, a box of white mettler thread, the pins, the blue Karen K Buckley scissors (and I LOVE her scissors), and the Lecien old new 30s bundle (13 FQs) pictured above. It was a fair value, but my last mystery box purchase cost less and seemed to be a better value. i know they told us what to expect, so I cant complain. In the future Massdrop, just offer up a fabric mystery , or notions mystery...that may help. It sounds like some lucky people got twice as much fabric as others, and that should not have occurred...
JatraynorI guess I like the mystery to be a bonus for some lucky people. If it's a minimum value and everyone gets at least that much, let's embrace the possibility of getting more. Makes the mystery more exciting.
Although I received 27 in bundle they were modern fabrics and I wasnt just head over heels for them all. Sometimes you just get what you get when you gamble. I would have enjoyed a linen bundle as well for smaller projects like coin purses or small zippered bags. The linen blend sells for more than quilting cotton and I am sure Massdrop did the best they could to make the drop as even as possible.
My box arrived on Saturday. In it, I received a 13 FQ bundle by Cosmo Fabrics in very frilly blue/pink colorway, pair of Tula Pink 4" scissors, Mettler 5 pk grey thread, Elizabeth Hartman Bear pattern, and a box of Clover fine glass head pins. Not sure about the stated $100 value, but at least I received some items I can actually use or turn into gifts.
