Ray-Ban originally designed these sunglasses for US aviators in 1937, the same year the company was founded. These days, the Aviator Classic is among the most iconic sunglass models in the world, with a look that works as well on the streets and the beach as it does in the cockpit Read More
err MASSDROP?? I’m sure it’s genuine but seeing this packaging did not fill me with confidence about its condition. Where did you guys source these from!?
I do see that, but the comments further down in the thread mention a lack of the polarized option. Does this mean that the drop was updated to add a polarized option, or that previous Ray Ban drops didn't offer that option?
bozon92Yes, this is an update to a previous drop. You're seeing comments from previous drops for the same shades where the lenses were not polarized. These are this time
In years a past, Ray-Ban used to offer these in sizes. Sort of an S,M,L option. Went through a lot of these from about 1966 to late 90's when I stopped wearing them. Back then about the only competition they was Vaurnet which were popularized through tennis. So I wore both from the original B&L label to the current Luxottica label. I didn't notice much difference in the lenses and I got the polarized version toward the end. Had the same inherent structural problems though. The frames really do look cool if you like the highway patrol look but hinges do wear down and the frames can warp or bend especially at the nose guards. Ray-Ban used to offer a service that would replace damaged lenses and recondition frames. I don't know if they still do. I've lost touch with them for years now after moving to Maui Jim's and Smith Optics with full polarization.
Got myself a pair of Ray Ban Aviators this summer, and out of the four pairs of sunglasses I keep in rotation they are by far the worst. Tons of glare and reflections. With the sun in my back I'd say it's much worse than wearing no sunglasses at all, as the big lenses and glossy golden frame bounce sun rays into my eyes. Going to sell them on ebay next year.
