We went to Head-Fi's CanJam 2015 having never heard of RIVA, but by the end of the show they were all we could talk about. In fact we liked it so much, we ended up bringing one home to play with Read More

We have some great news to share with everyone. This RIVA drop is progressing right on schedule. Our warehouse team received the bulk shipment this evening and will be breaking it down tomorrow into your individual orders. We will aim to ship everything out by tomorrow or Monday!
Expect an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 8/13 or sooner if something comes up.
It’s happening! Thanks to each of you, the drop was a success and we have contacted the vendor for the RIVA Turbo X Bluetooth Speaker and submitted the group’s order. They are now working hard and preparing your orders for shipment to our warehouse in New Jersey, where our team will be standing by ready to break everything down into individual orders and reship them directly to you. We currently expect to have everything out of our warehouse and on its way to you by 8/10.
We will certainly keep you up to date on the process and provide all of you with updated information about the order status as soon as it becomes available to us.
You can expect an update from us by the end of the day Pacific Time on 8/6.
The current month issue of Sound&Vision magazine reviewed this speaker highly. The problem I have is in the review, the magazine reports a MSRP of $350. So, where do you get a MSRP of $455? If that is the case, then this is not a very good deal...really none at all.
$350 is a standard price, on amazon, etc. But getting a bonus free bag is MD exclusive and it's definite a must have! You can refer to my detailed review on Head-fi (under twister6) where prior to receiving a bag I mentioned this being a nice "indoor" speaker. Then, I updated my review with description and pics of the bag which took it to a whole new level of being able to take it outside and enjoy it outdoors. Added bonus of those audiophile albums is good for someone like myself who tests audio products on a regular basis, not necessary for pleasure listening. But getting that bag is what sets this drop apart from other online sales.
Epyxnewsflash, riva is just a heavy and slippery brick :p with the best wireless sound I heard to date after reviewing dozens of bt speakers. The bag is compact and tight fitting with soft protection layer and nice handle. You wouldn't want to through Riva in a backpack or "just a bag", and it's not comfortable to carry in your hand. If you can find a deal to get Riva at $300 or have a ton of Amazon credit you need to get rid off - buy it elsewhere else. But if you had your mind set to get this speaker and comparing to other $350 deals, a bonus of this particular bag should tip the scale ;)
There are definitely great savings to be had! Like the 10 pair of LS50s that were on sale yesterday for a sick price.
Id like to see something per a price compare.... like a next level marketing campaign that respects peoples bargain hunting abilities --> Instead of MSRP do like a best price that can be found elsewhere and our deal... something like that would garner deep respect for the honest approach.
DetonNationYup, you bring up a great point. Buyers here at Massdrop are pretty savvy shoppers ourselves, so we definitely take it upon ourselves to do market research on products before offering them to our members.
There's a bit of a problem with using the best market price available, and that's that it fluctuates. Basically, if pricing varies day by day, changing it up and down based on current market conditions can be challenging, and even worse for re-runs.
Additionally, what counts as a credible source? If an eBay seller has 5 units at a low price but has zero seller feedback, is that the current market price? Or does it have to be an Amazon seller with more than 200 ratings and a 90%+ positive rating?
It's definitely something on our minds that we're thinking about.
Danny_LiuIn this case, virtually every retailer is seller the item for the exact same price. Fluctuations aren't the issue. Riva simply wasn't willing to cut a deal enticing enough for many Massdrop shoppers.
