Solidly built to stand up to daily travel yet incredibly light in the hand, the Shanling M2 has a lot to offer anyone looking for a dedicated digital music player. It’s made from black anodized and brushed aluminum, with a carbon-fiber backplate that lends a premium feel. Displayed on the 2.35-inch TFT LCD screen, the menu and file system is especially intuitive, and should be familiar to anyone who used an iPod before 2010. As for the sound, it’s clean, neutral, and detailed, with a very flat response well-suited to a range of genres.
Note: At checkout, you’ll have your choice of colors between black, blue, and silver.
On the top of the Shanling M2, you’ll find a 3.5-millimeter jack and a combined line out and COAX port. On the sides, it’s equipped with a power/wake button, volume buttons, and a microSD card that supports up to 128 gigs of external memory. The bottom panel houses a microUSB port that can be used for data transfer, charging, or connecting to your computer to be used as an external DAC. Inside, a 2200-mAh rechargeable lithium battery gives the DAP up to 12 hours of playing time at relatively high levels between charges.
