Though compact in size, the Shanling M3s digital audio player doesn’t hold back when it comes to features or sound. It checks all the audiophile boxes with well-regarded components like dual AK4490x2 DACs and dual AD8397 opamps Read More
Total crap, be very careful before you buy ANYTHING from Drop
I had this thing for about 5 months. The music quality was excellent. The build quality is apparently total crap. I've kept it very well protected at all times in a headphone box I carry around but one day the main button/knob just crapped out. Well, look at Shanling's website and they don't warranty anything outside of China. BUT they say their SELLERS are supposed to warranty so only buy from a reputable seller. Apparently, Drop is not a reputable seller. They only warranty for 30 days after sale. So they shouldn't be selling Shanling products. Of course, their excuse is that you COULD have found all this out before you bought it. Let me ask you - who does that? Who goes and digs into the warranty information on EVERY product they buy? Especially from a website that is selling itself as a premium seller of premium goods? So, I've bought four or five things from Drop but I probably won't buy anything ever again and I highly suggest no one else buy anything from them either. If you do - better make sure of your warrenty.
This was my first experience with a DAP that is not an Apple product. I purchased the Shanling M3s from Drop
because I wanted to get a DAP with a 2.5mm balanced headphone output. As of yet, while Apple sells the iPod Touch, a DAP (plus being a camera), Apple has yet to have a balanced headphone output on any of its DAP products (including the iPhone). The balanced headphone option is the ONLY was to go for superb HP sound----
don't let anyone tell you different.
I bought the Shanling M3s from Drop for $165 (as I recall) to get my feet wet in the PC world, and not have to pay an astronomical price to do so. To make this short----I found out that one can transfer audio files directly from a Mac computer to a non-Mac DAP w/o any application to install----IF----the files from the Mac are made via audio CD disc, and not purchased from iTunes.
The Shanling M3s works great!!!! (Trust me----I'm a professional musician with good audio evaluation). While the
M3s's controls may be slightly problematic, the sound is phenomenal!!! Leave the equalization on flat for best sound. I doubt a DAP twice, three, four, or more the price can improve the audio for the added investment. But----
balanced wiring is the secret to the magic.
Awesome player. Only downside so far is the poor design of the selector knob. Keep us paired with your phone and use the app - better functionality anyway.
