A tiny DAC/amp that fits in the palm of your hand, the Shanling UP is ideal for use with portable sources on the go. It uses the highly regarded ES9018K2m DAC chip, supports native DSD decoding, and has a high- and low-gain switch for pairing with a variety of headphone impedances Read More
Odd that nobody from massdrop seems to care that they pushed these out as DACs for the iPhone and they no longer work with the iPhone, leaving many of us in the shitter.
Anyone who bought this and has stopped working with iPhone iOS 10.3 and above, please email info@shanling.com to get your UP replaced. I twitted @ShanlingAudio and this is their response - "Due to the iOS serious changes, Unfortunately you need new version UP with different chip. Please email info@shanling.com for replacement."
- Currently still waiting for info@shanling.com to reply, will update you all soon.
If another IOS update blacklists the UP again, you will find that it will work with the Apple Lightning to USB camera cable. It is a workaround and costs $29 but is the way we've used iPhones with other portable DACs without MFI certification for quite some time.
I looked at some of these, but honestly, for about $45 more on Amazon, I was able to get a Fiio X3-Gen2, which works as a standalone player and as a DAC with my Nexus 6, when I want to listen to apps instead of FLAC. It is much bigger obviously, but if you have an Android with USB-OTG support, you may want to look at the Fiio X3 or another player/DAC device and kill two birds with one stone.
This looks like a decent DAC, but a bit overpriced, as Red DragonFly is. There are similar specced devices, much cheaper... My previous comments got deleted, so figure for yourselves.
