After emailing Shure support, I can confirm that mine is indeed a counterfeit. Kudos once again to Massdrop for handling the situation so professionally.

I just checked mine as well and it passed most of the tests, except for wire color, date code, and there's a big solder blob at the base of one of the capsule contacts. Has contoured windscreen ring, "SHURE" embossed XLR, screen printed logo ring, two holes near the base, bare aluminum threads, no "caution" sticker on capsule...
Honestly I'm not sure it's Shure.

well, first off thanks to the Massdrop team for the full refund, that was very professional. Since my order was "potentially affected" by the problem, is there any way to tell if my microphone is actually a counterfeit? I have checked a few guides I found on the internet and the only odd thing I noticed on my mic is the internal cables are blue and green instead of yellow and green. I still haven't tested it thoroughly but I used it once and it sounded ok. Is there any fool-proof method to confirm this?

janjiI just checked mine. The internal cables are blue and green instead of yellow and green, the plate they connect into is missing the two letter date code, and the foam on the top of the capsule is black, not gray. I found a few other differences (Shure logo wrong color under windscreen, XLR connector isn't Shure's, & more) when I compared it to the 58 I bought from a Shure authorized distributor. It's a fake. I'm disappointed, but I'm thankful that Massdrop dealt with the problem in a professional manner.

TheDGP@jrunsvold @TheDGP I did a quick test, probably very biased and unreliable, but the results are interesting. See the attached picture for more information. the roll-off at 100Hz and hi-cut at 10kHz are consistent with the frequency response graph. The low-end response seems solid. I still think it's a fake, but considering most people on the internet say counterfeits have a very thin sound with no low end this is one looks pretty decent, haha.

Can someone tell me how much these went for previously? Were there also shipping charges for US delivery? I'm wanting to get a few of these but I'm not sure if requesting and waiting is worth it rather than just going out and finding them now

Is this a legitimate Shure product? There are plenty of fakes out there...

This is like the consumer version of the $10,000 mics we use as ambients in the theatre, 1 suspended under the catwalk and 2 suspended from the grid.

ZeeKayThere is no difference. I understand sound people not wanting mics with switches but this can also be set to not allow people to use the switch.
