Can someone who owns this chime in? This seems to check all the boxes for what I need but its unclear if the volume control works on the pre outs. I would like to pair this with my emotive a-100 basx and darkvoice 336se but would like to also use it as a pre amp for them so i can set the volume on the amps and adjust with the m7.
I have one of these, and I can't get it to play any normal sounds from OSX. For example, youtube videos are silent. If I send music to it, like from Spotify or Vox, it plays the music. Don't really know what's going on but I think the drivers just aren't right, or it's implemented strangely.
You have know clue how it sounds but it's bad because it has to many features, smh. The logic of some of you guys is amazing. Also SMSL isn't covering anything up. The specs are standard for the XMOS chipset in the M7. And seriously 32-bit 768khz equals DXD support. A little Google goes a long way.
I have the M7 and it sounds great and works perfectly with my ArchLinux box. DSD playback works without issue.
It's a great lol dac amp for the money.
MegatheronIt's still a weak amp thats overpriced for its specs, and DSD is just marketing crap. It also has excessively high output impedance which will distort sound on the only low impedance phones that it could actually drive properly. If you're just using it for speakers it probably wont matter much but for headphones it leaves much to be desired. Get better results with a schiit stack for around the same price.
Sharky66That's my current setup and to me it works great. In terms of volume, going beyond halfway will probably make your eardrums bleed. On the other hand, I don't have anything else to compare this DAC with, so my opinion might be highly biased since this is my first DAC+headphones combo. I don't know if you have to install any special drivers or not but Win10 will detect it as 32-bit 786kHz, but using that resolution turns out to be problematic. Most players will crash when trying to render it.
Are you completely incapable of accepting that someone has a different subjective experience with DACs? @bravomail continues to present you with his experience and take on dacs. Additionally you completely disregard them because they don't align with your rigid views. Reading your responses are so absurd that they're just silly, haha.
"I highly doubt you are testing the DAC in this manner, and as such, I CANNOT BELIEVE YOU". Haha good lord...
RashomomAlas, it is you that is the one ignoring all of the electrical engineering concepts that I have clearly laid out for you. The circuitry influences the sound far more than a DAC. The only silly one is the one that ignores basic concepts of audio engineering and circuitry, and that is you.
Do I believe people hear subjective differences in DACs. Yes, I do. I also believe people are healed by placebo. What's the difference between DACs and placebo? Not much.
