Status Audio has made a big splash with audiophiles who appreciate value—perhaps most notably with the CB-1, a closed-back headphone that rivals more expensive cans. With the Dual-Driver Micro Buds, the company brings that value to the world of in-ear monitors Read More
Got mine yesterday. Fit and finish is nice. Silicone tips weren't bad but went to foam tips after a brief test with the originals. They have an odd sound for in ears. Not the usual presence you get from earphones, and not the spacious sound you get from speakers. It's odd. Flat eq, it does late 50s early 60s rock well and it's pretty good at big band. Acoustic guitar recorded off a piezo bridge sounds awful. Piano gets pushed a bit towards harpsichord. Took a while to find a good eq curve for them, and they are capable of a fuller sound. Sub $40 they are OK.
V shaped response. Perhaps a bit too much scooped out of the low mids. Bright but constrained highs and upper mids. Verges on twangy with some music. Really good for spoken word clear but not sibilant.
Received mine yesterday. Definitely V shaped sound signature, with decent bass. The highs are bright but I haven't experienced sibilance yet. They seem fun to listen to. Otherwise, they are comfortable, the remote works well and the cable is excellent. That cable is short and doesn't tangle and is just easy to deal with. The traveling pouch is also neat. Nothing here is fancy or groundbreaking, but it just all feels well thought out.
blazer39There are several companies that "launch" products on MD, but usually they have sent out review samples ahead of time and offer links to those, or someone from the company weighs in on the message boards here.
Can anybody comment on the sound profile for these buds? I am really intrigued by the idea of a Micro Bud with a dynamic and a BA driver. But I am not willing to throw down on a completely unknown set without any hint of what they sound like.
Just a note on this company as a whole since it is not well known. My brother has a pair of Status Audio headphones and is really enjoying them. Take that bit of info as you wish.
After receiving the Alpha and Delta, I figured I would stop buying cheap earbuds. Not that I think these will ever be the most amazing things, but I'm intrigued by anything Status Audio. So why not?
