You could keep using the same old headphone technology that you’ve been rocking for years, or you could upgrade to an entirely new approach that yields astonishing results. Forgoing conventional dynamic or planar magnetic drivers in favor of electrostatic alternatives, the STAX SRS-3170 Electrostatic Earspeaker System features a thin conductive diaphragm between two charged plates. Once high voltages are applied, the diaphragm moves and produces sound, resulting in a stunningly accurate presentation that blows its dynamic competitors out of the water.
Note: The system comes with the STAX SR-307 earphones and STAX SRM-232S driver unit. It comes in packaging designed for the Asian market, and will come with a voltage transformer for use in North America.
The headpiece of the package, the STAX SR-307 is a Lambda series earspeaker with STAX’s latest Super Engineered Plastic diaphragms. Bringing you sound unlike any dynamic or planar magnetic models, the SR-307 delivers extensive details and flawless reproduction of every instrument. Guitar solos melt your face off, piano pieces are euphoric, and every other type of music sings with new, stunning clarity. To bolster the transparent and articulated sound, the housing is light weight molded plastic with leather earpads and an adjustable headband.
The other component is the SRM-323S, an electrostatic headphone driver unit that functions like an amplifier. Built by STAX to power and compliment the Lambda line of earspeakers, it syncs up seamlessly with the SR-307. Bringing you full optionality, it features a single input, parallel output, and dual STAX headphone outputs in case you pick up another pair of Earspeakers. If you want to tweak the output to your exact preference, you can control the left and right channel volumes independently. Finished with a textured paint and brushed aluminum front plate that looks as good as it sounds, the SRM-323S is a formidable driver unit that blends in beautifully to your home decor.
