What a rip off -- these are no ore than cheap Chinese products paid to have a special brand name placed on them -- you can get the same thing on Alibaba or e-bay for a fraction of the cost -- boycott this is another Massdrop rip-off
Do you have any suggestion on where to start for learning how to use one of these? I've never fly fished but have cast-fished all my life. I'm very interested in getting one of these for backpacking and kayaking but have no idea how to use it and would like to learn. Any feedback would be greatly appreciated!

This can help you start out. I'd also go into a local fly shop and ask for good waters to fish and what flies are good this time of the year.
manateemilitiaTenkara is a perfect introduction to fly fishing. Casting is super easy- even my 7 year old caught fish the first time he used my Sierra rod. There’s no reel to have to worry about. The simplicity helps focus your attention more on the fish and the presentation than the gear, which can be overwhelming to a beginner getting into traditional fly fishing. You’ll spend more time actually fishing and enjoying the outdoors instead of fiddling with gear. (I speak from my experience with traditional fly fishing.) This kit provides everything you need gear wise to get started. A traditional fly fishing set up at minimum would run you twice as much. Hope that helps.
So stoked to finally see this drop! Can't wait to get the rod. This model seems like the perfect combo of lightweight and super fun!! Great job guys, looking forward to some great fishing in the outdoors.
I have the Sierra rod from Tenkara Rod Co. and I’m very happy with it. I‘m already on board for the mini Teton. Tenkara is a great introduction to fly fishing for those who have always wanted to try it, and is also a great way for fly fisherman to always have a rod with them for those impromptu fishing sessions. Sometimes it’s nice to just get back to basics with the zen-like simplicity of the Tenkara method. (Catching my personal best sunfish on the Sierra rod is bonus). Awesome for kids too. Great opportunity to support one of the few American companies that are making Tenkara gear. Great price on a great rod. Can’t wait to get mine!
PS- I’ve used mine from a kayak and it works great.
I have been shopping this one rod for 5 month. This is for Fish up to 2lbs in tight quarter. Hiking on trails deep into the mountains where weight matters. TIP: if you get this- call Tenkara Rod Co. and but 2 or 3 tips/ the last rod sectio. You don’t want to be deep in a Trek and have an accident and not have a back up. They are cheap.... like a few bucks each. Do It if you plan on doing a serious deep trek !
BT8484That's a good call. I'd always suggesting buying an extra tip section to have handy. Then if you ever break it, send it in to us for a free replacement and you don't have to miss out on any fishing while waiting for the replacement to show up.
Great price on this. Even with Tenkara Rod Co. 25% off for Black Friday this package is still $149 on their site.
I already have the Sawtooth package (which I got on Massdrop) and LOVE IT!!
Being able to just pull off the road, extend out this setup and fish in a matter of moments is awesome!
TandThe you are lucky, mine is still in Oslo 8-9 days later. It seems that produkt is greate, but the shipping/Package are bad. One the last Tenkara I bought there were not tapede at the ends and pars missing. Think this will be my last massdrop order.
