Really good performance https://www.audiosciencereview.com/forum/index.php?threads/review-and-measurements-of-the-topping-d70-dac.7694/ lowest noise floor of AK4497 measured yet. Only a couple dB less dynamic range than $1000 SMSL D1. Its only lacking part is some intermodulation distortion at full output. Putting the output down a bit yields 112+dB SINAD (again about equal to much more expensive D1)!
For the iconic/blazing $420 price this seems worth it if you need a stellar balanced dac.
verifonixI understand charts scientifically tell the differences. However, we do not have any clue when it comes to how wide sound stage is, how well treble presents, how well imaging is satisfying, how well instrumental separation presents etc. etc.
Deepspace57All of what you just said are ridiculous head-fi / high-end blogger words. There is not a single reason why one good DAC and another would have varying "sound stage" or "imaging" whatsoever. Sure there are different breeds of amplifiers with way differing performance, but a DAC should just give you the music straight.
If you don't believe that just check out head-fi threads and have a great one. I don't believe any of that crap myself. no offense
Deepspace57You are quite right. Chip, power, filtering and output stages all contribute to a units sound. Numbers on a graph are largely unhelpful in assessing sound quality, subjectively.
verifonixYou can believe or not believe. It doesn't change the fact that any number of us who have had multiple DACs has experienced them having vastly different sonic characteristics. As in, the kind where you'd be laughed at if you tried to deny it in person, listening to it.
JohnVFYou kid yourself if you truly believe your brain and ears are -not- easily fooled when buying new shiny more expensive gear. Expectation bias in a nutshell mate.
verifonixYou make a lot of assumptions about what I think sounds different (and better) than something else for somebody proclaiming to be objective. And again, in person... you'd look the fool. This includes me eschewing a studio/professional DAC that costs thousands for the one that's in one of my streaming devices, or how I rotate gear around here THAT I ALREADY OWN AND HAVE NOTHING TO GAIN from using..simply by which sounds best in which system/context.
