Are these expensive stabs? Oh yes. Would I use these for every build I do? No. Are these a good product? 100% yes, no questions asked.
These stabs are not mushy at all, and they don't slam down on the PCB either, which is nice. There is almost zero rattle on the board I have with these apart from a slight bit on the spacebar. A dab of lube and it was as silent as could be. I'm very impressed with them, there is a very noticeable difference between these stabs and other PCB mount stabs. I would highly recommend these if you have a nice custom build coming up.
After trying these for myself, I'd be hard pressed to build any $300+ keyboard with any other stabs.
**EDIT** Slight update: After changing caps a few times I've notices the stabs like to come "unclipped," essentially the stab wire detaches from the plastic housing when pulling caps. Fortunately I was able to get them seated and use a small object like a screwdriver to clip them back in. A minor inconvenience, but something that should probably be addressed in the future as I've never had a stab do this before on any keyboard I've ever owned. The first time I was not aware it would be possible to reattach the stab with just a small object, and desoldered a switch above each clip of the space bar to get a better angle to push it back in. This morning I was able to fix both the rigth shift and the spacebar without desoldering though, as both had come unclipped during my travels. Will update again if it gets better/worse.
**EDIT 2** After spending the entire morning trying to get the "0" stab on my numpad back in with no luck outside of desoldering, I'm gonna say I'd probably only use these for boards where you know you can get to the stab enough to push it back in. For the price compared to the trouble that comes with them, I'm just going to say I'm neutral on these now. For the high price, this definitely shouldnt be an issue imo.
TL:DR - When they DO work, they feel amazing. Very good stabs with a noticeably difference between normal stabs. The stab wires also come unclipped VERY easily, meaning you have to push them back in, which can mean desoldering the switches above the stabs to do. For the price I just think there is definitely a lot of room to improve on these.
There are many different plastics that can achieve transparency. The one we've opted to use is quite a bit softer and smooth than others that are much more brittle.
$35.74........... let me just repeat that............................. $35.74
this entire drop is a joke, people that buy this shit have gone full retard
I am still confused? I know this drop is for the screw in PCB mount transparent MX stabilizers, but this is the second transparent stabilizer drop I've followed, and neither have offered an MX Cherry stab in a transparent form. It sounds like you are saying you have no future plans for plate mount transparent Cherry stabilizers.
Isn't the uniqueness of transparency enough of an improvement to warrant existence?
I simply don't use Costar stabilizers. Don't like them, and prefer Cherry stabilizers. Problem is, I do not have a PCB either. My keyboard is hand wired, onto a plate. it's impossible for my to use a PCB mount stabilizer, but I also have LED lighting, and would love to have the stabilizers be transparent as well.
I've seen a wide variety of transparent stabilizers, but never transparent Cherry plate mounted. Why is this not deemed worth doing? I can certainly understand doing other styles (like the screw down PCB mount Cherry) first, since I'm guessing there is a higher demand, and there is a definite benefit to securing the part with screws, but those with backlighting, sub lighting, transparent/translucent switch housings, etc might want a stabilizer that is just as transparent, and with a bezelless keyboard like mine is, the stabilizers are visible along the front edge.
I certainly see the value in transparency, and hope to see it available for all varieties of keyboards, including plate only.
richfilesYou bring up valid points, but at the same time I'd say it's safe to say there are way more high-end custom keyboard kits on the market than hand-wired kits. Nearly all "enthusiast tiered" custom keyboards use PCB mount. Only prebuilt boards and hand wired builds use plate mount stabilizers. Most people that buy pre-built boards most likely aren't going to be installing transparent stabilizers just for the heck of it either.
At this point, I just don't foresee a high demand for transparent plate mount Cherry stabilizers. Selling premium stabilizers is already a niche within a niche. Offering plate mount Cherry stabs would be splitting hairs IMO.
I paid the zeal tax once.... but now that you can get the Everglide transparent gold screw ins off kprepublic or aliexpress there is absolutely no reason to let Zeal and Drop steal your hard earned money.
Same thing, around $10 in Chinese market.
$36 + shipping here for a "Group Buy". (lol)
Again, Zeal is selling something 3-4 times more expensive. No surprise.
Have you tried the new everglide ones? Exact same. Half price. Zeal loves to tweak existing patents and pretend he’s the OG inventor then mark it up 10x for his tweaks. Sounds like he’s been smoking tweak.
These are in stock at zeal directly, with pretty awesome shipping speed.
This drop, after tax and shipping was going to be $40 for me. Direct from Zeal, after shipping I paid $42, and I got them in 48 hours.
Am I the only one who thinks this is a bit ridiculous? Seriously it's not like you're going to see it(on most keyboards) and the gold has no function beyond visuals.
Definitely a good point no doubt. I would however say many of them would go to a car show/gathering of some sort and pop the hood. Surely not all, but a lot of them who would spend the cash for chrome.
