Here is a update. Straight from the horses mouth. "This post is regarding our knives going for sale at Drop (formally known as massdrop) on April 23rd. The knives were posted for sale without my permission or consent to be sold. They were not purchased directly from us or our distributor. The Talisman models that they have for sale/Pre-Order did not pass Quality control and were sent back to the manufacturer. The Manufacturer has made multiple claims that they were repaired, however a employee working for them told me they never moved out of storage/warehouse since I brought up the issue with the knives that were shipped to me for Pre-Orders. Over half of the Pre-Ordered Talismans did not meet my standards and were rejected and shipped back to the manufacturer. After almost a year, they were never repaired and purchased by Drop. The manufacturer went behind my back to sell these defected knives without any approval. Any Talisman purchased directly from them will be considered counterfeit, since they were not purchased directly from us or from a reliable source. Please note, these were manufactured by a well known brand that we are no longer working with. The Talisman model was not manufactured by WE Knives or our current manufacture." -VDK

william084Yeah, I’m not sure why I was so concerned with it in the first place, I didn’t even like the design of this knife
We are removing this listing while we look further into the issue. We had no reason to believe there would be a problem but would rather play it safe. Anyone who has already joined will have their purchase refunded and if rewards credits were applied they will also be returned.

Thanks for the clarification. I think you coulda started with this. I understand sometimes the company policy demand PR/communication in more neutral, high level manner, but people who spend this kinda money for this kinda knives are usually passionate bunch.
Everyone will get their rewards credits back, I just needed a team member to help with that because I couldn't do it myself over the weekend. I'm also working to get a run for the Fractal back up in a few weeks so you get another shot at it.

The fact that no one from Drop can provide clarification or any type of explanation is indeed scaring me at this point. This is not necessarily a small purchase (and with respect to what's going on in the world right now, no purchase is). I'm very much trying to hear both sides of a story here. I have not pulled my order as it's hard to make a sound decision based on what a few customers say in a forum. But I have to say the longer they go without responding or giving this any type of credence, the more its scaring me from this purchase and probably a great deal of others that I would probably make in the future. There have been times when customer service has not been the greatest on this site, but it has gotten much better over time and the product more often than not has been spectacular. I know they watch these threads and would be very surprised if by now they are not aware of this conversation. It would not take much to comment and provide an explanation, but they have chosen to stay out of it until now. I don't know if I will remain in this order if they choose to completely ignore what multiple people are saying on here. With the world more serious than ever, this is just not a time for me to be taking chances with my money. I'm trying to give the benefit of the doubt to Drop but I really dont think the customer service department should completely ignore this one.

Laxnerd213Vlad from VDK has stated that he had been in contact with manufacturer (Bestech) I believe, tha prototypes sent to him were not quality associated with VDK I don't believe these "seconds" should be allowed to hit the market.

rbrentDamn right they shouldn't hit the market. The only time a second should it the market is when its listed as so from the get go

The head of this brand has said himself that these knives aren't released to be for sale by him and are factory seconds. If you buy this you'll be buying a defective product in a sale that wasn't approved of by him. They did not pass his QC standards and don't represent his brand. Massdrop has listed these without approval. Do not buy these.

DamianbluThanks for brining this to my attention. I have pulled the listing down. We would never knowingly list factory seconds and if that is indeed what these are I have no intention of following through with the order.

This is an unauthorized sales of these knives. I know the man that makes them. These were not approved for sale.

Yeah. Honestly based on what was said and how it's played out so far, it sounds like Vlad pitched a fit over basically nothing but asymmetrical grinds. I would have stayed in the drop knowing that it was just a cosmetic issue.

Omniseedi think theres 2 main issues, QC and business. the only major QC issue i saw was that messed up pivot. i dont particularly care if the grinds are uneven that much and that plunge is certainly ugly as heck, but that pivot would be a nightmare to fix by hand. blade symmetry is important in terms of looks, but if it is manufactured, i'm willing to overlook a few flaws at sub 200$ as long as the knife performs as intended. But if, say the knives that were ground 'fatter' had slicing issues (4 degrees obtuse can affect the slicing capabilities of a knife), then that would be a performance issue, which needs to be fixed (which i'm betting is the case, because it looks like a wider blade, so poor geometry will have a greater impact on performance). also irregular grinds, if done correctly, actually perform better business issue was, compete lack of communication and transparency. that hurts everyone, maker, oem, distributor, customer. vdk was thinking too much about his reputation, bestech was thinking too much about making a buck, and massdrop wasn't thinking and just went with the flow. (not to blame massdrop, they were blindsighted) what wouldve been better was: bestech paid vdk for any materials they bought from him. reground all manufactured knives to a compeltely different design, and sold those as their own brand/design to recoup any losses. in the meantime, rework or just cancel the contract

How many people were able to get the purple one? I would have preferred that one but all the flipper-less versions look great IMO. Placed an order but have a feeling I'm going to change my color choice more than 5x before the drop finishes. Right now kinda learning towards either the green with black blade or the all black with green accents on the hardware.

Thank you. At this point I think we all deserve a comment from Drop. I appreciate you bringing this to our attention.

This one doesn't do it for me, but there are a couple of Vlad's designs that I would have jumped on at this price point, mainly his first 2 design, the War Admiral and the Pioneer of the Nile.

3 inch blade on an 8 inch knife? Not great proportions

UnwisefoolNot super length-efficient, but it isn't too bad. Basically just a somewhat short blade on a fairly fullsized handle, and the huge belly should offset it a bit with extra cutting edge.
