I bought these about a year ago, 10/10 would recommend especially for a desktop listening setup. The front port means you can hug them as close as you want to against the wall. The mids are amazing, and paired with a solid sub they are even more fun.

Anyone knowledgeable can comment on how these may be better than Pioneer BS22 that goes often on sale for $60 pair

ander134Somehow its not listed under 'audiophile' drops. I guess BS22 is not considered an audiophile speaker by MD ;)

I've had these for a few years, I really love them. Bass is actually pretty okay, depending on what you're used to. Really though, the mids and highs are super detailed. I especially enjoy the sound of horns and vocals, though electronic tracks with a lot of detail also stand out. Just keep in mind, as others have said, if you really love your bass, you'll want a sub.

what kind of connections do they have? HDMI? RCA? BT? thanks

smackenThese are passive speakers, so they only have binding posts to connect them to an amplifier. No HDMI/RCA/BT or anything like that.

smacken5-way binding posts. Just your average speaker wire will do.

Purchased these from wavecrest over a year ago. I highly recommend them as entry level speakers, they work wonderfully near-field. Especially a paired with a good subwoofer. The focus of these speakers is in primarily mids so don't expect the deepest bass response in the world.

DeerjesusA speaker this size is not likely to produce tons of bass anyway. I would also like to point out that measurements [official ones here: https://www.wavecrestaudio.com/products/hvl-1-two-way-loudspeaker-pair, another set here: http://noaudiophile.com/Wave_Crest_Audio_HLV-1/] indicate that they are quite close to being neutral, not mid-focused. You could probably get these flat to 50Hz, and maybe even lower, with some EQ or DSP if you have a decent amp. I would recommend at least 50W/ch for these, or double that if you are using a cheap class D/class T amp like the ones SMSL makes since they will sound like garbage at their rated output power.
