Woo Audio WA7 Fireflies 2nd Generation Tube DAC/Amp

Woo Audio’s first WA7 Fireflies DAC/amp was a big hit among audiophiles. Now, the brand is back—and the fireflies are flying again. Introducing the WA7 Fireflies 2nd Gen: an all-vacuum-tube, transformer-coupled headphone amp and USB DAC that outperforms its predecessor. Supporting both 24-bit, 384-kilohertz PCM and DSD64/128 high-resolution playback, the Fireflies 2nd Generation takes a big leap in sonic detail compared to the first generation. It also features new premium Teflon tube sockets to optimize the amplification characteristics of its two SOVTEK 6C45 vacuum tubes, plus an RCA output for improved connectivity in DAC mode. Completing the Fireflies 2nd Gen, these features and more come packed in an elegant aluminum chassis and high-clarity glass block with a minimal desktop footprint. 

Every aspect of the WA7 Fireflies 2nd Gen is designed for striking sonic and aesthetic impact. The entire unit is handmade, with its tubes encased in a solid slab of glass for tube protection, chassis dampening, and a truly unique visual experience. Held in premium Teflon tube sockets, the tubes themselves are SOVTEK 6C45 vacuum tubes—known for their detail and warm audio characteristics. Together with a maximum power output to headphones of 1 Watt at 32 ohms, and distortion levels lower than 0.03 percent, these components deliver a listening experience worthy of any audiophile’s setup.

To fit a wide range of configurations, the WA7 Fireflies 2nd Gen features both asynchronous USB and stereo RCA inputs. The USB input is best for connecting to the computer to enjoy streaming music services such as Spotify, Apple Music, Amazon Music HD, Qobuz and TIDAL. For those spinning vinyl, the Fireflies 2nd Gen’s RCA input makes it easy to connect a phono preamp. On the output side, the Fireflies 2nd Gen features a 6.3-millimeter output for full-size headphones, a 3.5-millimeter output for IEMs, and a new RCA output for expanded connectivity in DAC mode. Another important feature is a rear-facing impedance switch, which you can toggle to synergize with everything from sensitive IEMs to power-hungry dynamics and planar magnetics. 

To reduce size and eliminate electromagnetic interference, the WA7 comes with a separate power supply, available in your choice of solid-state or tube. The tube option (WA7tp) is a high-performance linear power supply utilizing a pair of 12AU7/5963 tubes as rectifiers to deliver enhanced stereo separation and smoother treble. Designed in-house by Woo Audio, the WA7tp features the same solid construction as the WA7 Fireflies 2nd Gen, ensuring both long-lasting durability and well-matched aesthetics.
