First thing, this isin't that great value device. The sound is unnatural and too flat. There are a lot of unnecessary background sounds, alien to music. The highs are extended to an idiotic level. There is no midrange. Bass is very hard. No music, only analisys. If that's not enough, you won't get TotalMix, which would be best part of this device... All that options are very difficult to operate from device interface. No access from aplication interface...
AdorniSorry to disagree. Quality, sound and functionality are fantastic - neutral, dynamic, beautiful voices. I own both the pro fs be version (DAC and ADC) and the « only » DAC version costing much less. I am listening to them in different set-up. Via headphones (Focal Stellia and Utopia; Audeze LCD2; Sennheiser 800S and IEMs) or via loudspeakers (nearfield with Neumann KH120 or Vivid Audio Giya G3 + Hypex ncore Amps) with roon streaming from NAS or Qobuz. Absolutely remarkable DAC and unique functionality. But price is here higher than market so useless to buy them from drop. And then, if you don’t need the numerous functionality (EQ etc), there are more cost effective options eg from Topping, Sabaj, etc; or with a similar price you can get a streamer as well, eg from Matrix Audio.
AdorniAdomi reading your comments I can't believe you own it, I got 3 of them ( actually the rme adi2 dac), and are absolutely great in every way ... being the only piece that is on the 3 audio sets I own .. and I mean not only headphone related, this hardware is a masterpiece on audiophile systems. if you don't believe me, you should ask Jon Darko , or see some of you tube reviews. ... it is an absolute winner price /quality/performance wise compared.... the mass drop offer.... not so much for a great price, sorry guys :(...
AdorniIt is actually quite a good value, since you get a provably-transparent DAC, an excellent ADC, a very good headphone amp, and built-in DSP. As for what you are hearing, it is probably a placebo effect, a problem with your hardware, a problem with your music, or some combination. This device is provably transparent, so unless there is some kind of defect with your unit or you messed something up with the DSP, it is reproducing your music so accurately that it is essentially perfect.
The_JniacRME Fireface UFX II is device you are talking about. With Adi Pro you have no midrange, strange bass and highly analitical sound. No music there. This isn't transparency
AdorniTheir specs say otherwise. Independent measurements prove otherwise. Again, either there is a problem in your equipment somewhere, or there is a problem between your ears. Inaudible distortion, noise, and jitter combined with a frequency response that is perfectly flat for anything but a cyborg or android from the future mean that it is, by definition, transparent.
Link 1 Link 2 <- Previous version with an inferior DAC section. Even then it is audibly transparent under any realistic conditions.

AdorniI demoed the ADI-2 DAC a while ago. It was basically flawless, just like any other DAC that is not garbage. Personal experience is not relevant though, given that this is a piece of equipment that sits within the signal chain, and as such the only thing that matters is how accurately it reproduces the signals that it is sent, which is something that is very easily quantified using measurements.
