Sound Design
Let’s start with the sound, shall we? Providing plenty of punch, the 40 mm extra-large, high-flux magnet drivers brings clean, punchy bass, a nice and natural midrange, and a clear yet gentle treble. The diaphragms were custom designed by ADL for high noise attenuation and low distortion, damping rings keep ultra-high frequencies in phase, and the light-weight coils enable more consistent transient response. What’s more, the H118 boasts a surprisingly wide soundstage and detailed instrumentation for a closed set of cans.
Construction
While we think it sounds great, you don’t have to take our word for it; the ADL H118 earned Hi-Fi Choice Recommended, the 2014 Audio Excellence Award, and the VGP 2014 Award. As for the construction, the all-plastic frame features metal screws at the joints, a leatherette band at the top, and leatherette ear pads in a unique Triform design for an excellent seal. To round things out, the headband comes with numbered size settings so you can always return to the perfect fit.
