Anyone compare these to t40rp mk3, ath-a990z or 550z, hd 569 or 598 CS (closed)? Im looking for an open sounding, closed set. I like tight, fast sound. I don't like veiled, dark or super rolled off highs. I like my bass tight... doesn't have to have massive quantity just good quality.

TheerealistI've owned the AT m50x, Fostex t50rpmkiii, Fostex tr90, NAD HP50, AKG 7xx, Oppo PM3, Shure 1540, and now the AKG 553. I love the 553 because they keep a moderate soundstage with good separation and detail compared to other closed cans. The treble isn't rolled nor is it harsh or sibilant. The bass is there but not massive and feels well balanced with the mid and high range. The Foster TR90 has the fastest tightest bass I've heard (with the fat ear pads) but it's got too many trade off's with other sound issues and build/fit quality.

TheerealistSounds like you're describing beyer DT 770. Not a fan boy but they're so much more open sounding than most closed w no roll off. That said, these AKGs are really good in this lower price range. Have owned, did like. Not sure how open they sounded.
