A little. ZTE AXON 7 headphone output is a little quiet. You don't need anything heavy duty, however.

Depends on the age of the machine. My output is loud enough for the DAC to start to matter, but if it's a laptop I tend to use a DAC/AMP there. Most people would probably spend a little something on a DAC/AMP combo for this amount of money (including myself). SMSL M3 or Micca Origin, both are on Amazon.

I'm excited to use these with my Axon 7, but is its own DAC/amp enough to power the headset at optimal quality? I know it won't be as loud but I'm wondering if I should use a separate amp for listening to music with my phone.

If you have a portable amp you'll be fine. They rave about the built in dac but I don't hear much of a difference between it and a smsl m8. At max volume it is just not the loudest, however. So yeah, you'll be able to hear the quality, but not really jam out or turn it up.

Awesome, thanks for the reply. My current Sennheiser headphones sound about the same with a DAC from my PC vs. with my phone, but the K7XX will blow these out of the water so I'll probably keep them for my PC.

Absolutely. At least an smsl m3 or mica Origen. I ran these from my motherboard (which boasts some of the best on board audio) and it didnt extend into the low end and everything sounded dull. At very low volumes it sounded listenable. As soon as I added an smsl m3 the headphones came to life. The headphones sounded totally different. The soundstage, imaging, and everywhere from the lows and the highs sounded exceptional. The smsl m3 will not run these headphones to their full capabilities but it's a great start. If you want to really see what these headphones can do Id suggest a Aune X1s or a Schiit stack. These headphones will sound as good as the source you feed into them.

yes you will need an AMP. they won't sound directly from mobile/tablet. PC will handle them, but the sound will be muddy. get good external USB/DAC/AMP. SMSL, FX Audio, Fiio, Schiit etc
