First time ever I bought something here on massdrop! Newb questions: 1) How long after the drop ends does shipping usually start? 2) will there be tracking for international customers? 3) will I have to pay something extra? (like taxes or import costs,...)

AleXileDI you live in a EU country(I assume you do like me), there is usually a tax you pay for a product that gets imported from a non EU country (arount 25% unless the usps screws up and you don't have to pay the tax). Shipping I have no idea but I hope to god it's not the estimated 29th june. I'm myself wondering about the tracking.

AleXileDI think the total becomes around $250 USD, the $25 for shipping gets paid to the company that ships the cans over-seas, and import taxes varies, in sweden it varies from 6% (magazines) to 25% (almost everything else). I also think it varies between countries, but don't quote me on that.
[edit]: I calculated based on the laws if everything is done correctly, in sweden it'll cost me about $285 USD in total. And that's if EVERYTHING is done right to 100%, which it isn't about 90% of the time. In belgium I have no idea about taxes, but I'm guessing it's a lot better that the ridiculous fees we pay on things in sweden. Still cheaper than trying to buy annie pads separately and stick them to a pair of K702's though, which is even more ridiculous. [edit2]: it was $350 USD

AleXileDI'm from Belgium as well. I used a customs calculater and the total might be in the 50-70 euros range. So that sucks. Is it possible to declare a lower value? Anyone?

insaniteitprobably not, unless AKG would agree to international shipping and them iporting the headphones into europe at a much lower price than that of the US. I tried one of those customs calculators, the price got up to $350 USD. I'm still baffeled how it's more expensive to put the annie pads on a regular K702, at this price it's almost exactly the same price as the fidelio X2's, which leads me to believe this might just be the most extreme case of import taxes being awfully ridiculous towards people I've encountered in my life.

insaniteitHi insaniteit, you can create a free account at Shipito.com (another freight forwarder) and change the shipping address to land there. They will request you complete an online customs declaration form (including product value), which then gets printed on the package for international shipping. I have found them to be very fast (3 days to AU) and affordable in the past.

Grumpy17Hmmm... Why not just use massdrop forwarding? Can't imagine them being alot cheaper for shipping to th EU and there is no getting around import costs? I feel the more stages/contactpersons you put in between you and your product the more likely there is a mistake and you don't get your sweet headphones?

AleXileDThe way to get past import costs is totally random, USPS generally don't do their job and it ends up being way cheaper. But in the case of actually paying it can become more expensive. I live in sweden and calculated it would cost around $350 USD if I have to pay everything including import, so I hope they slip by without notice, in other EU countries the import is usually not as harsh though.

AleXileDShipito requires you to put a customs value on the forwarded package through their online forwarding service. They then re-pack and send with the new customs value on the box. The process isn't much different to using Massdrop's internal forwarder except for requiring this step. It's an easy way to save hundreds of dollars on import taxes/fees. If anything, using Shipito is more reliable, as you're given tracking numbers from them. I doubt the service Massdrop are using will give individual tracking numbers to each member. The numbers of hands the package goes through are still the same.
