Not sure why the hate. If people don't like this, then don't get it. Massdrop can offer whatever they want to us.

IMHO the essence of Massdrop is in giving opportunity to people with limited budget to still get good sounding things when people buy them in mass together. I think Massdrop does it generally well with some lapses like this Auris or Kennerton nonsense. If someone wants boutique equipment let them go to specialty stores and do not confuse aspiring audiophiles with elitist drivel, there are plenty of web sites for the high spending immersion. Remember we are dealing here with predominantly mature technology which provides good level of quality for a reasonable price. Again those with trash pile of cash should stop wining or go somewhere else. Please do not misunderstand me, I am glad there are high spending people believing in snake oil, sometimes it helps to drive technology ahead, like alchemists drove chemistry ahead:).

At this price point, I don't understand why it is not balance output.

It's the way the acronym "XLR" slides off the tongue. Anything that sounds that nice and smooth absolutely has to sound better, even if no one truly understands what it is or what it does.
It's pure marketing nonsense to an ignorant clientele. Incidentally, this has always been and continues to be what fuels the world of "high-technology" in general.

Because of marketing BS people with no knowledge in basic engineering and audio. Its just overall perceivement as being better as well as stereotype, just the way it its. One brand is better than the other brand because its brand A over B even though B is better than A. Matter of luxury having to pay more. But for me, no matter what for the high price tag, I would want a fully balance amp having the option to choose our offering and convenience.

TIL Massdrop can't offer expensive pieces because people get mad they can't afford them and claim they're overpriced even though they have no idea what they're talking about.
News flash, people with 10k+ worth of headphones (and plenty that cost more by themselves than this amp does) are also allowed to be a part of the community. You won't be running your Kennerton Odin, HFM H1K (or even the new Susvara) or Utopias with a 400 buck ZDT. You're going to be wanting something that's on the same standard, and this is more like it.
God forbid MD ever collaborates with Pathos, Viva, Lampizator or pretty much any other boutique audio company, the upheaval will be astounding.

VigrithYes rich people are also allow to be part of the community. But would be nice if Drop collaborates with high end stuff to make it affordable eventhough the line of affordable pretty much cost more than a kidney.

So I'm curious. I thought MD was community-driven. What part of our community, exactly, indicated they were in the market for this, let alone had a poll and voted it up with a couple hundred votes? If MD is just going to be yet another tweak audio site, I don't see the value add.

GorbagCommon man, MD has already gone a different path compared to what it was established upon. In the audiophile section, countless people have requested HD 800, but all they have is the replacement cable for it. They need to make money after all, but it is sad that they did not find a right balance between making money and really doing something for the community.

Why not $10,000 or $100,000. Typical high price marketing manipulation, no wonder Zepter (crazily expensive - must be good) also was established by Serbian businessman Milan Yankovich. Have free cash to burn, go ahead. Those with some good thinking and without trash can full of greenback - do not bother.

Why not WA22 at price point? Or WA8 for portability? This is kinda silly.

rexhu17As a differentiator, it is an SE amp. Having never heard it out if it, can't say how it sounds or how the other features work (e.g. selectable impedance, remote). As in all things in life, variety is the spice.
FYI, I am very satisfied WA22 owner
