My experience with Burson Audio customer service is horrible. I will never buy a Burson Audio product again and as a result of this I can not recommend Burson Audio products.
When i bought my CV1 it was like getting new cans. I would think the SL would be ok but I was able to get a good price on the CV1 and dac options are solid and easy swap.
I am not sure what the hype is on Schii is about...maybe thier price and humor?
O2moWould step up to something with a bit more power for the lcd-3

I'll take this Burson amp with unbalanced output over something like a Schiit Mjolnir 2 with balanced outputs any day just because Burson is a better company that makes better quality amps with better sound. I love Burson's sound.
I should add that I spent hours demoing the McIntosh MHA100 (balanced) and the Oppo HA-1 (balanced), testing out the balanced capabilities of each, and I personally prefer the Burson Conductor Virtuoso (unbalanced) to either of those headphone amps as far as sound goes. My budget would not allow me to have any of those, so I settled on the Soloist which provides the same quality of sound for headphone listening as the Conductor Virtuoso albeit without some of those extra features. I did get the Soloist for the extra power rather than the Soloist SL. I have not actually listened to the Soloist SL so I can't compare it to the Soloist, the Conductor Virtuoso, or the other amps I have mentioned.
sup Audioman how u been? I sold my TH900 and got HD800 ...unbelievable headphones. I love how neutral and powerful sound is. Voices sound like real thing. Amazing.
TheRealVladI've been good! How about you? That's awesome man. I have very little experience with the TH900's, but I have heard them. They are nice, but I agree that the HD800's are better (again, from the little experience I have). One of my favorite headphone setups that I've heard to date has been HD800s powered by a Headamp GS-X Mk II.
Too bad to see Burson going to cheap sheet metal enclosures. One of their selling points was the full bolted aluminum plate 'vaults'. Not that it really affects the electronics, but it makes me wonder what other corners might be getting cut.
BTW, even though it is parroting the Burson website description, the SL is not a full 6mm CNC enclosure. The product description here on Massdrop is misleading. The faceplate and some of the chassis might be 6mm CNC, but the cover clearly isn't.
headphonedudeThe sheet metal stuff has always been and is only on the SL gear and is part of bringing the cost down while maintaining the majority of the circuit of their higher level equipment. There are a few other changes like the volume pot (ALPS RK27, which is still very nice, instead of their own stepped attenuator) and power output.
The standard Soloist and Conductor (now Conductor Virtuoso) still have the tank chassis that Burson is known for.

I have a Burson headphone amp and I love it. I have listened to offerings from Woo Audio, Schiit, Creative, Fiio, and many others, and Burson has been my favorite so far. I have the more powerful soloist that puts out 4W rather than 2W, and it drives my most power hungry headphones to their full potential.
