Mic is good but the tripod is trash. It us far too small for the Mic and I would recommend getting a boom arm to hold the Mic this way the Mic is much closer to you while not being in the way. This will also make the Mic sound better because it does not have much range and you will quickly sound very quiet. I have mine about 1 foot away from me.
Hey! So I'm not sure if this voids warranty or anything but I fixed the "hiss" in the background.. I found this by first twisting the bottom of the microphone and pulling the body off to expose the PCB, then moved the switch to 0 off of the -10dB. I then lasty, set the microphones level to 95 in the properties. this makes the microphone louder and more responsive, also removed the hiss.. They should ship it out this way or allow an easier way to switch it..
I want to buy a mic and i have seen that this module is very hit or miss. its either really good or broken.
should i buy this as my first mic? or something cheaper and more stable in performance?
I was one of the original adopters of this microphone, and I absolutely cannot recommend it. I ended out purchasing a Yeti instead, and have been -far- happier with the quality. This thing is currently sitting in its case, under my bed, hoping for a day where... honestly, it was a significant waste of money.
I even sent it back to have it 'repaired', and never has it met the modest expectations I wanted from it.
I'm glad to hear that the GXL2400-USB works for you! Sadly, based on a few of my CAD experiences now, I've marked them off my list of buys and won't consider them again. The Yeti isn't perfect, but for the price I paid, it's wholly meeting my needs. With everything I've experienced, my next microphone purchase will most definitely be an XLR mic and an interface. Desk clutter stinks, but if I'm going to continue down this rabbit hole of a hobby, there really isn't any other way to go.
Ugh. This audiophile community is SO disappointing. USB version? Why not the XLR version? The microphone selection on this site is always super low, let alone USB versions. I like USB as much as the next guy, but I want that XLR for mixers and such.
