Semi drunken comment from a Brit (well, actually a Scot, and it's late here); I have purchased three Chord products: a Mojo, a Poly, and a Qutest.
One thing I did not realise, is the scale of Chord; we are not talking about a large-scale manufacturing plant, but a very small dedicated company that hand-makes / hones their products.
I found this out trying to purchase a 2go/2yu as a streamer to feed my Qutest driven HiFi system - due to Covid, it has been unavailable for over a year.
Where am, I going with this...
They just cannot seem to keep up with demand.
Do what I have done; go direct (sorry Drop), buy from the UK, as I have done with all my Schiit and Campfire products, purchased from the US. There may be import tax etc. but you get what you ask for and the knowledge that it is traceable to source.
To get back on topic - do it. The Mojo is a marvel, the Poly... Well, it needs to be nurtured - but it does provide amazing clarity.
My Sennheiser 660s almost like it as much as my Mr Speakers Aeon open - just looking forward to seeing how my Drop Meze 99 Neo's fare.
Urano_MetriaDude, I'am hoping - like you - that Massdrop will do another one.
I got one myself and the Mojo is a superb Dac/Amp ... unequaled for its talents and qualities with regards to the price IMO. Not to mention its size. Would love to have a spare.
But, if you read 'some' of the comments made during the Drop, not all of them were complementary to MD - the innuendos were plainly unpalatable. Tho' MD came thru, a number of participants were 'annoyed' by the sellers (i.e. MD is a re-seller) antics.
In the end, MD re-funded $40 to each participant - I wonder what MD's eventual profit was after all was taken into account. Whatever the truth, I have my Mojo.
My thanks to the crew at MD!
yeah this a wierd case. I got my unit from Amazon UK (which is as authorized as can be). My opinion is that Chord always insists in the quality of their product and they are very strict about such things.
While this particular drop did not turn out well, I do appreciate Massdrop's efforts to notify drop participants, and I have already received a refund. I do hope Massdrop can eventually become an authorized dealer for Chord products. I wouldn't mind, for example, if it became an outlet for Chord to sell "blemished" units, for example, that work but would normally not be sellable due to cosmetic issues.
Actually this sort of thing has become sort of "par for the course" for Massdrop the past year or two... shady vendors, endlessly missed ship dates, shipping some of the participants in a drop while delaying others, representing drops as in stock when no stock exists, inflated MSRP's on drop products, canceled drops, etc., etc., etc. This latest Chord Mojo fiasco doesn't surprise me at all. Better to pay a bit more and buy from a valid, reputable, authorized dealer and get fully backed, fully warrantied current, fresh product with full serial numbers, etc. than save a pittance and have take a chance with potentially counterfeit product, defective product, possibly returned old stock product, etc. or have to hassle with jumping through Massdrop hoops to get an RMA, shipping back, etc. What happened to you guys at Massdrop? You used to be much more on top of things...
see also: Chord Electronics Massdrop has previously procured stock from unauthorised sales channels (grey importing), removing/modifying serial numbers from the product/packaging in the process. Because of this we cannot guarantee that the items purchased are legitimate Mojos or that they meet our high standards.
