Such a slick looking diver but why does it have to be so damned large? (I just picked up a similar model from Amazon for $129 and it has a perfect 43mm case, which is my maximum size.)
TwentySixAndSay--that gives me an idea--I'll sell 'em all Baby Aspirin and make a fortune!
"Here--take two of these little pills at bedtime; you'll see the amazing results first thing in the morning. That'll be $600 thank you. Next!"
Mike987I taught SCUBA for couple years - used plenty of 100m watches; they are fine. Max depth for a rec diver is 40m, and you are going to be there for 5min not doing much as a) your air will be dropping like a rock and b) no decco stops. Is it a watch for a tech diver - no, is it perfectly fine for recreational diving - absolutely. 90% of the time you are going to be diving 10-20m range.
I had students using 50m watches without an issue. Additionally, nowadays you will have a dive computer as your primary timer. Interestingly, most of them are rated at 100m. There's been a depth rating creep in recent decades, as manufacturers try to upsale customers into more expensive models.
This one, from a reputable manufacturer and a good design, is plenty fine for recreational SCUBA.
Careful with this purchase guys. Citizen is probably the forefront of the market for solar watches with their eco-drive technology. However, they are known in the watch community for having very faulty automatic movements, and this doesnt come with a warranty
hate to do it, but i'm just looking out for the community
Anyone looking to purchase this watch and actually dive with it may want to hold off. 100m water resistance translates into taking a shower and/or a bit of a swim - it does not mean diving. In addition, I would have appreciated a bit more info on the clasp on the strap - true dive watches take clasps to a new level, expanding the strap to allow it to be worn over a wetsuit or other diving clothing.
All that said, I believe Citizen did a lovely job on creating a dive aesthetic with the overall design of the watch face - I would be far more appreciative of it had it sported a 200m 'real' dive watch rating. As it stands, this is a sheep in wolf's clothing.
Hi Erik, I think we're both on the same page here. :) My original post indicated that 100m was good for swimming (surface snorkeling) and showering (your Citizen link supports this also), but not so much for diving.
FYI. I jumped on this the first time it dropped as it looked good in the photos. When it arrived, I thought it was quite ugly and looked cheap. Too many indents around the dial, and the face just looked plasticy.
$110 is a good price for this watch, but where's the NH8381-12L (blue) version? It's like shopping a thrift store. Good prices but incomplete selection and very little quantity = frustrating.
Once again lacking photos and description info is causing me to look elsewhere for the information. Come on massdrop a few more pictures and words can't cost that much time or money. I'm not hating, I really like massdrop. I just get tired of their lackadaisical approach.
