Good budget flipper
This is my first CJRB knife, so I held onto it for a bit before I started trying to form opinions on it.
search
Right out of the box the knife reminded me of a Ganzo Firebird flipper in a lot of ways -- thick, decent build quality, inexpensive but good materials. I paid the extra money for the carbon fiber option, not expecting much -- real carbon fiber isn't being had at that price, it's usually a simulant or CF over G-10. It flips fine. The detent hole is quite deep and the detent bearing sticks out a fair bit, which means it does load a bit before it fires unlike something finely tuned. But it's not bad.

And you get good lockup:

When I broke it down it didn't stop seeming like a Ganzo:

If you look closely you can see that the knife scale is indeed CF over G-10 -- like the well for the liner lock and the countersunk bevel on the pivot, where you can see not CF but fabric exposed.

So that's not solid CF. Generally speaking you don't get 'real' CF on a budget knife. What you get effectively is much more resin and much less woven carbon and it acts and feels like G-10 in the hand. The GOOD news for those of you that like customizing your budget knives -- all that resin means you can dye it.

For the asking price, it's a five star knife. It's definitely not as polished and refined or materially advanced as a carbon fiber flipper with super steel. It's not really meant to stay pretty, either -- this is a work knife, the kind you carry in a toolbox or in your pocket. But it flips well, it cuts well, it has decent ergonomics for a budget work knife, and I was able to dye it indigo. So I'm ok with what I picked up. There's another CJRB inbound; it'll be interesting to see if it seems like it's made by the same manufacturer, or if whoever owns CJRB is contracting to one or more OEMs, like Kubey and Steel Will.

reswrightI like the that turned out with the dye. Gives that creative edgy look to it. Could you tell me the way you when about it and what kind of dye to use please? I was debating on picking 1 up and after I saw your review and finished product, it made my choice clear. Thx for your review and pix.

Wildas it turns out, I can! https://drop.com/talk/28211/how-to-dye-knife-scales That's the method I used. And I think that was indigo dye. good luck, dyeing knives is a lot of fun

Outstanding knife
Razor sharp out of the box. Zero radial or axial blade slop. Solid detent in the closed position which you REALLY want for a knife with tip up carry. Quality is amazing, ESPECIALLY at this VERY modest price point.

In the limited time I've had to carry and use this knife, I like it pretty well. The blade centering is decent, but not perfect. I like the texture and feel of G10 scales - grip is good without being rough. Some people complain about the elevated clip, but it's carried fine for me so far, and doesn't effect the ergonomics much in my hands. Nice and sharp out of the box. fit and finish is good enough at this price point. It flips nicely, and opens easily manually if you are around those who are timid or fearful. Detent is good, I personally like the blade shape, and D2 is a decent steel. Overall a good budget knife so far.

What a great surprise I just got in the mail
This knife is a great find. I’ve belong working with it for a few days. I’m practicing a lot with my left hand. The knife opens and shut smoothly. Using my right hand is not so much a big deal. the knife is so smooth when I open it up. No effort closing it too. The chip is really tight so once the knife goes into my pocket it’s not leaving. You do have to have a good grip on it when you remove the knife. The bad was very shape just touching the blade you could tell it had a great edge. bottom line is that I could see buying one more. I’d tell a friends in a heart to buy this knife.

Smooth opening, excellent size
I have big hands. This is a larger knife. It fits my hand(s) quite well. I love the smooth opening. I like the finger notch (I have a very similar knife without it, and it makes me realize how much I like the one here). Being left-handed, I feel like liner-locks where made for me; I understand they're not as popular as some other mechanisms.

exactly what i expected
no surprises. the knife is precisely what it should be given the price. blade centered, lock up very solid, no play in the blade and reasonably sharp upon arrival. the blade is rated at a hardness of 58-60 on the hrc scale, similar to most other folders. i reprofiled the blade as i normally do and had no sharpening issues.

Very nice
I have had this knife (in carbon fiber) for about 3 weeks now and I really l like the quality of it especially for the price. If you want just a nice knife with carbon fiber on the sides I really recommend it.

Very nice
Feels very solid in hand and can stand up to a lot of use. I brought to work with me and it can open boxes, slice plastic sheets, and never feels uneasy. I rarely sharpen it, just the occasional touch-up. Keep it clean and it will be your friend for a long time.

Great knife
Smooth flipper that also comes super sharp right out of the box, good balance and an amazing hand feel. Carbon fiber handles look amazing as well
