It’s no secret that the headphone jack is an endangered species on today’s smartphones. Its exodus has left many headphone users in need of adapters Read More
rastusI've tried one and this little dongle is definitely useful. Sound quality is on par with a lot of the other inexpensive dongles. You can't argue that it is as compact as you will likely find which is nice. It supports use of a mic and remote on android models (Don't think the lightning version does from what I've read). That makes it handy for me to be able to take calls in noisy areas using whichever in-ear I have handy at the time. The one drawback is that it lacks output power compared to some others and is best paired with low impedance/ high sensitivity in-ears.
I tell ya, folks, nothing screams quality like babbling, incoherent ad copy set in a stylishly thin typeface. Hallowed out, indeed.
Show of hands: how many people here scanned and then re-scanned the page looking for just a word of confirmation in plain English that this is a DAC and not an analog pin adapter? Even if it could be assumed, how many felt that twinge of frustration at not having that most basic of assumptions affirmed?
This is going to end up wrecking your usbc port. They should have a device with a flex part inbetween the headphone jack and usbc connector. This design will increase leverage and strain on the phones port.
If only that same company didn't remove the headphone jack in the first place. People still would have bought that company's cordless toothbrush heads and stuck them in their ears as a show of devotion to said company.
They have a lightning version of this, but I guess you have to get it elsewhere, maybe drop will offer that next as they seem to have a few drops for DD Hi-Fi stuff ATM, I bought this because wifes ipad pro has no jack and no adapter, we have bluetooth and wired phones around tend prefer wired
$35? Is this a joke? An adapter is not a status symbol. Flagship phones come with one of these for free, and you can buy an adapter for $5 on Amazon/eBay. Sure this looks nice, but a $30 premium for a shiny compact version is ridiculous. That's literally more expensive than entry-level Bluetooth headphones. I'm sure someone who runs their phone through their DAC will swear this is the greatest thing since balanced XLR , but it's a hard pass from me.
Oh, I'm with you there. I had to second guess myself because usually Drop is really transparent about the specs. Calling it an 'adapter' is really selling it short. Additionally, the ALC5686 chip/codec does not have a ton of information out there that I can find. Personally I bought a ~$10 dongle with an ALC4050 and it's my least favorite.
KidzIt does 32 bit 384khz, if you use the midi on the mac you can upsample to it, it sounds better than the on board audio by a good margin is quiet and at least with my CIEMs goes plenty loud enough, any of these "adapters" pretty much include a DAC, because unless its one of theUSB C's with audio pass through (some phones) the signal is digital and needs converting, its not cheap, but there are other USB C dongles on drop that cost more than this.
39 dollars instead of 40, dang. So, how is Drop still alive since I haven't seen anything worth buying here in a long long while? Sounds like AliExpress (not even Amazon) with extra steps. Had to buy a keyset here a couple months ago because they probably begged the original manufacturer to make it a Drop exclusive, but long gone are the days when Massdrop was a real marketplace for enthusiasts made by enthusiasts. I'm sure they had to kill the other categories because people got sick of them and nobody bought anything, while mech and audio enthusiasts are easier to manipulate, especially the former since they're used to fomo and not receiving the expensive stuff they buy
NEXONUSOK... there's that, but this thing would have gone through Drop, and they let it slide right on through!! :-O
Is it a marketing strategy? Is any attention good attention? LOL
Have had one for about three weeks now and am happy with it. I usually don't have the need for a USB C DAC but needed one for a finicky 3.5mm plug. There are better ones out there but I think in this price range it a great choice. One nice thing about this one is there is no cable that can break from strain over time. But this does possibly cause another issue of having the DAC and a 3.5mm plug stacked on top of each other coming out of the USB C port. I have added some pics of mine next to my son's USB C DACs so you can see the size difference.
mjkeil62this isn't super relevant, but just, good on you for being able to talk with your son about this stuff! i would've proverbially killed to have been able to bond with my folks over audio equipment and stuff.
