"The Gavko Nurse is a beautiful beast and I love it !!! The milling on both handles and clip is above and beyond most other knives. The sheepsfoot blade design is a favorite of mine and the execution of the Gacko Nurse is perfect. The overall balance is dead on and the ergonomics of the Gavko Nurse gives a comfortable and confident hand feel. The Gavko Nurse, with it's aesthetically pleasing look and functional design will be the knife I go to for most situations, it can go from a construction site to a formal dinner without missing a beat.
My hands are medium to large and feel that this knife, like most others with a 3" blade, should have a lanyard hole of some sort. The reason is, in my opinion, most men using this knife will feel that while this knife is very comfortable and controllable with almost any size hand, the men or women with larger hands would appreciate the extra rear end stability that a lanyard would provide. The only reason I've added this is because I have a few smaller knives with 2" blades and small handles that just felt better with a short lanyard to help rear grip. Most people focus on the blade and forward handle of a knife, but I feel, the overall handle and grip confidence is just as important. Just to be absolutely clear: The Gavko Nurse fits my hand near perfect and I love the feel in "my hand", this additional review is more for people with XL or larger hands.
5 stars is my rating for the Gavko Nurse.

I got to check out one of the passaround prototypes, in the Ocean style, and it's pretty cool. Here is my review of it, and some shots. My lens is cracked so these were taken with the front camera of my phone instead, so they might be soft focused.

I have most of the Drop collaboration knives, and Michael Gavac's Nurse is a sleek, practical, and aesthetically lovely entry in the series. The Nurse is refined in a way that makes it tough to pick which aspect of the design is my favorite.

The sheepsfoot blade profile is nicely ground and presents an interesting but reassuringly social appearance, while feeling larger than the 3" reach it actually has. It cuts nicely and the tip is perfect for the shallow incisions that a good sheepsfoot is so adept at. And the swedge running along the spine is nicely done.

The pocket clip is my favorite out of all of the Drop knives to date. It looks great, it has a good amount of clearance for fabric, the retention is exactly right. It does everything a clip should with nothing to criticize and due to the fine attention to detail of this design and manufacturer, it's pretty at the same time. A perfect clip unless you need a true deep carry style.

The action is good, the detent feels dialed in for the blade aperture. I like to use my index finger to open knives whenever possible, which the elongated opening on the Nurse is perfectly suited for. I can open it with my thumb but the ergos are not quite right for it, or I don't know the technique yet, which is fine. The flipper tab works with either a push button or a light switch opening technique, and the detent is gentle but firm and reliable with it.

The handle showcases the signature Gavko shark/marine motif, while also demonstrating what a talented designer he is. The slightly flared butt end is extremely comfortable in the hand, giving large handed users a solid and smooth area to rest against the pinky, a great swell to hold with the pinky for small hands, and the option of either for a medium glove wearer like me. The scales are contoured in a way that both feels good and makes the knife feel more fish-like than a slabsided handle would be able to achieve. And speaking of fish, when the knife is held closed with the spine upright, it looks like a little fish with the pivot eye, the gills, and the cutout in the scales! It is a pretty knife with a lot to say for itself. The Ocean version has a lovely smokey, watery blue anodization and a stormy looking dark stonewashed blade.

Absolutely top notch machining! A+ quality
What would make this a 5 star knife is 1) better blade steel and 2) a left hand version like the "Thresher" or at minimum a left side pocket clip. The machining on this knife is crazy! Custom pivot design and the contours are outstanding! It almost looks like the titanium is form molded around the pivot because the machining is so good! I drilled/tapped for left pocket carry and i might remove the flipper tab if i decide to mod this one like my "Thresher".

I just got some cheapo stones I might as well found at goodwill, so I'm pretty much boned with any sharpening for now Does that pocket clip give off any hotspot with that curve out? It looks like it comes out a fair bit

JaegerDSo far i haven't noticed any hot spots or any problems with the clip. Now that you mention it, the only thing that bugs me is the flipper tab. It sticks out a fare amount so if you reach into your pocket it is kinda annoying and pokes your hand. I might grind the tab off of mine since it opens so well with just a finger flick.

I bought this knife after I received the Thresher, hoping the action would be of equal quality, and man did it deliver!! You can feel the quality knives from We Knife are known for. This little thing is really almost perfect (according to my standards):
  • Blade is perfectly centered
  • No blade play or lock rock
  • Incredible action, the detent is just tough enough to make it impossible to fail the deploy, can be "spydie flicked", and falls shut with just a tiny shake, which makes it a great fidget toy. It won't shake open, and the blade won't bounce when closing
  • Great design, the lines of the blade blend well with the frame, machining is nicely done with no sharp edges (except the end of the pocket clip but it hasn't been an issue), and great size for an EDC
  • Pocket clip carries just deep enough (I don't like very deep carry knives)
  • The branding is super discreet, with just the Gavko logo on the blade, and Drop's "D" on the pivot. Even the "S35VN" on the blade is printed on a hidden part
If I had to find something to complain about, it would be that just like the Thresher, the blade was not the sharpest it could be, but that's really a minor thing. It will probably see a lot of pocket time, and it would really be the perfect EDC for me if the blade had a bit of belly (but that's not something I can complain about, I knew the blade shape when I made the purchase ^^). This knife is a true little gem!

Nice piece, too thick blade stock
Great design, good execution, beautiful fit and finish...but the blade stock is too thick. Could have been mitigated by starting the flat grind closer to the spine or a simple hollow grind.

Awesome
Overall quality, size, blade and just the feel . Smooth as butter and great blade style. A great knife would like to have another. Only thing I could see that would make it super, would be some jimping on the rear of the blade.

Awesome knife. Would like it without the flipper, but it's cool with. Love the shape. Blade is super thick. Nice size. Excellent build.
