I truly don't understand the hate - They're f***ing amazing
I bought these last year when the 'Z' sale was going on. I immediately loved them upon listening. They were unlike anything I've ever heard in terms of realism/soundstage, etc... Stupidly, I read all of the reviews online and watched the review videos from the larger youtube headphone reviewers (most of whom trashed the headphones) and let them convince me the headphones were trash, resulting in me eventually returning them. Needless to say, I've regretted it ever since. Now, over a year later, I ended up re-buying them used (after waiting/hoping drop would re-release them) and I don't regret it in the slightest. I did end up paying more for them used than the original sale price for the ones I returned, so returning them in the first place is my biggest regret.
I truly don't understand why so many reviewers hated this headphone. It's like they all got together beforehand and decided to jointly bash them, just for the fact that they sound slightly different than the original HD800S. Do the HD800S sound slightly better than the HD8XX? Yeah, they probably do; but the point is that they were several hundred dollars cheaper than the originals, and many of us literally paid HALF for them vs the MSRP of the HD800S. That's an AMAZING price for a headphone that's 95% as good (or some would consider even better than the HD800S.) I truly don't understand why so many people were butthurt about them not sounding identical when they were priced so much more affordably. I've come to the conclusion that those people just suck, and count it as a lesson to not let reviewers and youtube 'influencers' affect my future decisions w/ gear.
I just wish the cable were shorter; but that's a minor issue.

It's because many of those people thought frequency response curves were the end all-be all when it comes to judging audio equipment. Once _____ posted frequency data for the 8XX, that was it. I paid full price for my OG 8XX and have never regretted it. Glad to hear others took advantage of sales to find out for themselves. Between these, my OG Focal Clears, and Camp Fire Holocene IEM, I hit end game and just enjoy music. Cheers!
