Not going to purchase...but more so a question to the community. Has anyone here ever quit playing out of frustration? Like I had learned music theory, scales and what not but I felt incapable of getting better. I absolutely loathed doing covers idk how do you continue to enjoy playing?

FractalThe way you improve is by playing stuff that's too difficult for you. I understand your desire to play original stuff, but the best way to learn is to find a complex and challenging song, and learn it. Most of us learn by learning to play our favorite songs, the ones that made us want to start playing.

I've been playing an 8-string guitar for about a year now and its almost like a completely new instrument with all the possibilities it opened up. When I go back and play one of my 6-string guitars now it almost feels like a toy. I highly recommend a multi-scale 8-string though, especially if you are tuning low with the heavier strings, because it helps eliminate that "floppy" factor. Fanned fretting was also surprisingly amazing in ergonomics and comfort but also in speed and accuracy.

I totally regret not getting on board for the last ESP Massdrop. I would go for a 7-string, but I'm not doing 8. Hopefully the next round of ESPs include an option with a floating bridge!

stingray240sxTo be honest, I have been hesitant to bring tremolos and floating bridges into the mix. However, if people would like to see some guitars with a wider variety of hardware options, I will certainly look into that. The amount of setup necessary on a Floyd Rose or Khaler...ick...compared to a Fender tremolo is enormous. And then again there are those who swear by the Floyd Rose or Khaler bridges as being superior.
In the end there are different tastes for every player out there. I will definitely look into what other options we can get the next time around. Thanks for you post!

SeanReidI only recently discovered this website and wasn't totally sure what it was all about when the other ESP drop was active. Either way, I'm excited to see what other kinds of guitar-related drops happen. I'm in the market for a nice new high-end axe, but now I feel like I want to wait for something to pop up on here since it would be such a great deal!

HouseI have an 8 string guitar and I love playing it far more than a standard 6 string. I didn't buy it because somebody told me to, I bought it from my own desire. It's disrespectful to assume that everyone who owns an 8 string is doing it to be a kool kat.

NerthniThere's an on-going joke about Hisperism on MD, you do what you do son. Wasn't really a serious comment. No disrespect in anyway. Cheers. :D

How is this strung - or - where are the extra strings? (Does it say somewhere and I'm blind?) Is it B-E-A-D-G-B-E-A?

Nige111I can remember with vivid memory the first person I saw playing an 8 string guitar, it was world renowned jazz guitarist Charlie Hunter. And at the time, people thought he was crazy and pretentious, then they heard him play a walking bass line while comping and soloing, they all fell silent.
Then Korn and Deftones became famous with the new-metal wave of the mid 90's around the same time. Yet, everyone forgot that Steve Vai had been using a 7 string long before they had made them famous. Other jazz players were using 8 string then too and as bassists moved towards 5 and 6 string instruments over the traditional 4 strings, guitarists followed suit.
I have played bass, electric and upright, for 20 years. I fought against the 5 string and up trend for years, but realized eventually that it was unavoidable as a professional. In truth, the musician defines the genre, not the instrument and I love metalcore and DJent, just as much as I love Chopin, Schubert, Ornette Coleman and Charlie Feathers.
Just my two-cents, you need not be a fan of heavy music to appreciate or want to play more than 6 strings on a guitar. Thanks to everyone for joining in the discussion!

Looks awesome! Only thing is once I get into this string range I prefer passive-pickups for my particular style of music but if you're more into fast shredding/tapping those actives will do you nicely.

This guitar looks incredibly sexy but the neck looks wide as can be.
Also, I just dumped waaaaay too much on custom hardware for my new bass :( /humblebrag

parkman47Slightly obvious the neck will be wide as fuck, it's an 8 string guitar.
