So this shouldn't be used as a DAC. Which one would you recommend that also can drive two balanced monitors?

roblesWhy shouldn't this be used as a DAC? Do you know what chip is in it?
Edit: It uses a Cirrus Logic CS4272 DAC/ADC combo chip.

Seems ample enough to me. I'm interested to compare it to my Audioengine D1 through my Fostex T50RP once I receive it.
And are your monitors powered? If so, this box will give you a balanced preamped signal out of the rear TRS jacks and work just fine. If not, you'll probably still need a power amp between your audio interface/DAC, depending on your component setup.

velophilusCan you post about how this stacks up to the AudioEngine D1 as a DAC? I'm interested in the 1/4" input for casual use but will mostly use it for output (listening to music).

tranceFusionIt depends on your taste. If you're looking for accurate audiophile listening I would recommend the 2i2s. They will target a flat frequency response and have balanced outputs if you want to get balanced cables and run studio monitors (eliminating ground noise and getting an even flatter response). If you're look for fun "hyped" listening, the D1 might be better because it colors the sound nicely. What is your current setup?
