Product Description
Fusing old-school style with modern technology, the Fostex PM03G studio monitors pair well with stereo receivers, integrated amps, and tube amplifiers. Featuring a solid wood enclosure, each speaker has a 3-inch fiberglass cone woofer and a 0.75-inch silk dome tweeter that work together to project a soundstage typically found in larger floorstanding speakers Read More
Regarding build quality: they really are solidly built. I can knock on the side of the cabinets and only hear a dull thud. That black material you see around the woofer and tweeter is like neoprene and further helps lower vibrations. Upon playing them quite loud I couldn't hear any resonance. The thick and well damped wooden cabinets along with the built-in amplification put these on the heavier side.
Soundwise, they roll off around 100-110 Hz, but everything else above that sounds detailed with a fairly flat response and a slight bright tilt in their tonality which I suppose could be evened out by the PM Submini 2 subwoofer (Drop folks: *HINT HINT*). The imaging is quite good as well and they're able to give off a good soundstage from a few feet away. Mind you, these won't beat something like a set of JBL LSR 305 but then again these are smaller and cheaper speakers. If a review isn't convincing enough, there luckily are sound demos on youtube of how these speakers sound, which was another factor in my deciding to buy these.
Aesthetically I also like these speakers because of their subdued yet modern look, and due to their small size are perfect if you just want something to listen to in a room. They're small enough to put on a desk tray next to your laptop if you want to watch movies in bed, which I do on occasion.
