This DAC has several inputs and one set of RCA outs plus a headphone jack. The sound from the headphone out is average and best with lower impedance phones. The overall sound of the DAC is pretty good for this price range. For under $50 it is a decent value.
If you are just looking for a way to connect some lightweight headphones (Grado sr60) to a computer with a weak headphone jack then this does the job. Also if turning a knob is more your thing than moving the slider on your PC, I guess this gets you there. It just plugged in by USB and was able to power itself just on that which is good to see. Don't really know how necessary this is because most cases where you'll actually need a DAC/amp you'll be looking in a higher tier.
I use this at work to get some decent quality sound. It's not the best dac/amp but it is a significant upgrade from on-board audio. I think at $35 it gets the job done. I'd recommend this to anyone on a tight budget or looking for an expendable dac/amp.
You get what you paid for. Not too bad the product itself but very questionable QA. Popping sound started the 3rd day. Checked all possible causes with no luck. Swapped back the old DAC and no more noise. Disappointed.
Literally set this up 2 days ago, already it's dead. I had my doubts about quality as soon as I saw the box and instructions, which are all in Chinese. The unit did work fine, gave ok bass and clear mids and highs. But failing after 2 days of use, not even full days. Super disappointed, what a waste of $35 + shipping to the UK
I am currently using the box in usb-headphone and it sounds great, The only grip I have is that the instructions are all in Chinese which made setup a bit of a pain, because in order to start the dac initially you have to hold the power button down for a while. Other then that it works great, and feels very well put together.
With some minor gripes that keep it from being 5 stars. Like previously mentioned, instructions are all in Chinese. It's also got some cables that are short. And yes it does take time for it to power up of about 5 seconds or so (Although not a concern of mine). When you first power it up, it goes to autodetect and it failed to find USB connection while doing this. But hey it works nicely. This Dac seems to emphasize mids and highs, so it's terrible for actuating bass. I would like to note I'm still early in my audiophile journey to explore sound and that this is my first DAC. As a beginner, this is a good entry point I think.
The first thing i noticed, was everything was in Chinese. Not sure if this was made just for the Chinese market or not. I initially thought it was DOA, but it turns out you need to press and hold the power button for what seems like an eternity before it will power on. The instructions might have said something, but it was all in Chinese.
Currently using it as TOSLINK to headphone and had no problems. It works quite well, but I not an audiophile so I cannot attest to the quality of it or richness of the sound, but it works better than plugging my headphones directly into my speakers.
The power supply is a USB to barrel jack, it boggles my mind, that they couldn't use micro USB or, even better USB-C to power it as it would be easier to move it around and / or have replacement cables on hand. I didn't even try to use the included wall-wart because it looked very cheap. I am just using an old cell phone charger with the same specs.
Would have given it 5 stars if there were some English instructions, and if the power cable was not a barrel jack.
