An inexpensive DAC/amp that does it all without taking up much space, the FX Audio DAC-X7 is equipped with the highly regarded AK4490EQ DAC chip. Though it can be used discretely as a DAC, it also features a powerful headphone amplifier that outputs 500 mW at 32 ohms. Head-Fi reviewer omegaorgun says, “My initial impressions are the sound is very smooth, almost delivered to your ears on a velvet platter. Instrument separation is enhanced from cheaper DACs and that is just on my Takstar 82s, which normally sounded a little harsh and are now less fatiguing. I am able to pick out sounds that I did not normally hear before.”
