This is the perfect size for an edc blade. A 3-in blade length and slim profile makes this very easy to slip into a pocket and forget about it. The flipper design and detent are perfect for a very snappy blade deployment. Comfortable in hand coupled with the S30V blade material and aluminum scales, Gerber really hit the mark with this one.

This is just the right size, great steel, good design and the best price. I only wish that the sage version had been available on this drop. I was pleased that at least it was available in a color besides black. After a day of fidgeting, I found the detente strong and presenting the blade slightly difficult. I even got a blister on the tip of my index finger, something that has never happened before. Some have said that it is a copy of Kershaw's leek. I think the Kershaw's Dividend is very similar. Both Kershaw's are assisted opening. The photo below shows all three US made knives for you to compare. Drop's price on the carbon fiber Leek is the lightest and cheapest by $25. The Dividend (red) an House of Blades exclusive is the same price as Drop's Fastball. Gerber has suffered from some difficult times and I would like to see them make a comeback. I think the Fastball is a great effort. If you are looking for a quality knife as your first or another great one for your rotation, it think the Fastball will be an excellent choice. If the sage colored handle is available on a future drop, I may just pick one up.

The one I received was a train wreck of QC issues. First thing I noticed was the bad centering... blade was way off to one side. No blade play or loose screws... they just thought "this is fine" and boxed it up. Luckily, the tolerances are so bad I could loosen all the screws (no thread locker btw), push the blade over, and tighten everything up again to get the blade centered. The blade grind is bad...one side of the grind is basically twice as tall as the other, because it's completely asymmetric. It's almost a chisel grind at the tip. The edges of the liner are rough and unfinished. If I squeeze the knife near the pivot area I hear a crunching sound. I'm not sure what that is. The detent is a little too strong, I feel like I'm going to rip the ball out every time I open it. Why did I buy this? It feels like a cheap clone of a much better knife.
