Product Description
The newest iteration of Glycine’s Airman is the Airman 42. Originally designed for pilots, it’s found a wider audience since its release in the 1950s, not only for its unique design—the dial is numbered all the way through 24 in intervals of 2, with the 12th numeral at the 6 o’clock position—but also for its ability to display second and third time zones Read More
I’m still not into this watch but there is certainly a market for it and looks like people can find it much cheaper elsewhere. I think Zelos got me spoiled lol
I keep going back and forth on glycine. I don’t care about the invicta ownership and I’m also not concerned with the eta/selitta movement variety. I like the 24 hour, 4 hander gmt in full steel (bracelet and bezel) the best, and at 40mm (not sure if that size exists).
The prices are reasonable too, whether it’s here or elsewhere. I just can’t pull the trigger when I know there are other, albeit pricier, options that I want. First world problems.
WatchyoutalkingaboutThanks for your review. I won't purchase any timepiece associated with invicta. I bought serveral invicta watches before I knew any better. invicta watches are very poor quality and invicta customer service is terrible.
Just received mine (gl0064) yesterday from another site. the price is ok - on ebay can be a bit cheaper.
Great watch, and the dial is hypnotic!
I have a 7.1' wrist and it is ok despite the huge lug to lug
To confirm, the "Glycine GL293" is an ETA 2893? Is it a real ETA manufacture or one of the new companies (Selita, Soprod,...)? This is a great price for an ETA 2893.
SkipPpTo the best of my knowledge, the GL293 is based on the ETA 2893. A Google search should bring you all the information you need. How much Glycine changes it beyond the rotor engraving and how much (if anything) is done in-house as opposed to being done by ETA and delivered is beyond my knowledge. I haven't heard anything about Glycine using other movement manufacturers, but my lack of a definitive answer is no indication they do or don't.
I so want to buy this watch, but speaking from experience with the Airman Sphair ( with the black rubberized bezel) I will say that anyone intending to use the numerals on the bezel is going to have a tough time seeing them. I think that Glyine/Invicta did this watch a disservice by subdueing the bezel numerals to the point that they are unusable in anything other than medium -to- bright light. As a pilot who flies at night, I can honestly say that the bezel markings are unusable in the cockpit after dark, unless I shine a light on them, thus ruining my night vision. Obviously those numerals aren’t lumed (I don’t think it would look good if they were), but even a contrasting paint would do wonders for legibility even in the daytime. Just my 2 cents. Still a unique and beautiful watch. I might buy one anyway!
I have received my package. Everything is okay but I did not find any manual in the box. Is it delivered like that or am I missing something? do I need to do manual winding?
Great watches, one of the most original designs ever, these being dropped are fine I have no issue with them, but this IS an Ashford drop, and those watches have been on sale much cheaper for like a while now, direct from them. Of course they raised all the prices by a LOT for the drop, as usual.
Luminous dial with the NATO style strap looks great. Hard to fault this particular Glycine model. The "1 purchaser needed" quote would worry me if I was thinking of purchase, as in the past the "Sold Through" seems to go up real quick!!
Whoops, sorry, I still had Ashford in my history and cookies and had that exact model in my shopping cart, once I got an error and cleared cookies, it went up to like 699.. That's how you can tell this is an Ashford drop guys! They raise the prices on their site to support the drop, and sell them for like 20-30% more on the drop!
Glen8Yes, agreed. This seems to be the current retail collusion tactic. Which can be a little devious. Unfortunately it isn't always easy to figure out the point of origin of the supply chain. Chrono24 actually list the supplying retailer on the add: this might be a reasonable thing for DROP to consider in the interests of transparency; as this obvious price altering that seems to be occurring around a drop could be seen as price fixing and manipulation.
As I have said before I have had some great purchases from Drop since joining; and see myself as one of many supporters for this platform : but I must say that in the previous 6 months or so I have seen this concerning behaviour. The "evidence" if you like is very circumstantial; but with many people noticing it one would have to say it warrants looking into.
I have seen this happen with sites like Jomashop,Ashford, and a couple of others. Although on some occassions the price has been similar but the watch is "Out of stock"111 Really!!!
I don't mind different marketing techniques being used; but this does appear very sneaky. We might be totally wrong and i would be the first to forward my apologises; but I never have been a believer in repeated coincidence.
Still the old adage "Buyer Beware" , has to be adhered too.
Why are purist non-gmt model and the GMT model same price?
Also, anybody know if the hour hand on the GMT models can be adjusted in one-hour increments without hacking the movement (useful when crossing time zones)? In other words, is this a true GMT complication?
Thanks!
watch_fanThis might be a stupid question, but which watches should cost more/less? Or in other words, which ones are the best deals for this price? My guess would be the ones with the extra "arrow" and metal bracelet?
