Precisely machined, then assembled and inspected by hand, the Helic pen by The Tin Mill pays equal attention to performance and looks. It features a stainless steel body with copper plating for a bright luster Read More
Based on the below comments, this pen is a failure, and massdrop admins (respond if you dare) need to do some homework and stop peddling garbage. It only hurts the reputation of your site.
Has anyone else gotten one like mine - https://www.massdrop.com/buy/helic-machined-pen-by-the-tin-mill/talk/1904044 - where the surface finish was not polished and it arrived with scratches?
Also, is there anyone who knows whether or not this drop is from the manufacturer, or just a reseller? I hadn't received any response from The Tin Mill when I've asked them about this writing instrument, so I wanted to know why no one from md here or the folks responsible for this drop are replying.
Would recommend not buying. Within two weeks the clip became
loose. Tightened several times over the next couple of weeks. Decided to remove the clip. Shortly thereafter the spring mechanism became fault; pen would not retract unless I unscrewed the bottom. I have stopped using complerely.
I had one of these and the spring let loose after about 6 weeks of use. Now it just flops up and down without a solid seating. It requires the smallest Allen wrench (hex key) I have ever seen. no reply from manufacture after 2 weeks. I don’t recommend spending money on these.
@Boomtown - So, what does the logo on the clip look like? Is it some sticker on a clear background which may or may not be aligned, like it looks like in pictures?
I'll have to get better pics, so the clip logo shows up better next time (the pen's not with me atm), however, here's what mine looked like (right out of the box, the barrel's surface is scratched up); the logo is engraved (and slightly crooked). And the finish seems more of a matte look than polished (at least, if it's supposed to be polished, like in the description at the product page: https://www.thetinmill.com/products/helic - one bullet point under the features says, " Finished with Polished Nickel Plating"). Functionally, however, the pen works smoothly and the innovative way to extend/retract the ink refill is neat to see. :)
When I remember to do so, I'll post again with a better image... Just fyi, fwiw.
I got this pen in the last drop and I love it. Very high quality. It's quite a bit longer than other pens though and the pen is very top heavy which can make it a bit uncomfortable to use.
okesterSo readin' about the history/purpose of massdrop was cool 'n all - https://www.massdrop.com/talk/1954/the-history-of-massdrop - yet there was zero interaction from the vendor/distributor/md folks for this drop this time around - what's up with that? And no reason given why the previous drop was refunded - was it by a distributor or The Tin Mill?
