This is a monument to pointless, [moderated] snobness. The point of chopsticks is to use wood so that the metal doesn't affect the taste of the food. 49 bucks for two titanium sticks? Why the fuck do you even need titanium for a utensil to eat? Do you have fucking adamantium teeth or what?!

I've had steel chopsticks...and used them once. You're going to burn your tongue for $50. Don't bother.

I didn't. They heat up from the food. Dip them in ramen and they're scorching in seconds. While steel/titanium aren't as thermally conductive as most metals like copper, they're still metal.

Just to offer an alternative opinion to other hopeful folks, it is possible to get along with metal chopsticks. After all, metal spoons are commonly used with soups and stews and not everyone's getting burned, though I'm sure it must happen from time to time.. But it's probably not for everyone. If you're on the fence, I'd definitely get a cheap pair to try before forking out 50 bucks on this fancy pair.
I have steel chopsticks and do use them often. Have never gotten burned. If I left them soaking in hot soup for a bit, and wasn't paying attention to what I was doing, I'd see how it might be possible. That would apply to any other metal cutlery. I find that a quick dip doesn't heat up much, and there's very little extended contact with the mouth anyway? I'd be more likely to experience a burn from the heat from the food (e.g., the noodles). If the noodles/soup were scorching hot, one could possibly experience a burn even with plastic or wooden utensils if one wasn't careful.

I know that sorry for my poor explanation, but i didnt mean it was the same thing as silver, simply that it was used because of similar reasons. I also dont strictly mean elemental titanium i was just to lazy to spell it out lol.
But im also not a material expert so i dont know all the applications of ti lol.
But yeah either way i feel like its a sketchy description.

FeebleOldManMost bacteria cannot survive on a hard non-porous surface for more than about 30min, which is less time than it takes for them to multiply. When they call it bacteria free, i think they are talking purely in comparison to wood chopsticks which are soft/pourus. Solid Ti will not actively fight bacteria like silver does, but it will prevent it from multiplying/surviving due to the hard non-pourus surface.

I have a pair of titanium chopsticks that gets carried with other Ti utensils for my camping bag.
I don't use them at home since they can leave marks on ceramic bowls and dishes.

Except you didn't, because you've yet to refute any point I've made. Per the original response, I was stating 440 as a comparative because there really aren't any other harder stainless steel grades. Feel free to let me know what utensils you happen to have that are made from 440 though, because you also haven't indicated that is what your comparison image contains!
At the end of the day, you bought some cheaper titanium chop sticks which are most definitely softer and cheaper than 6Al4V titanium. But I tell you what, when I get back from vacation and if I still remember, I'll pick up a few pieces of the various grades of titanium I can find and test it on my own ceramic dishes to bring about a more scientific comparison as to why you get marks. If anything, I am just as interested in testing and seeing results as to what is more suitable.

My stainless chopsticks are decades old and definitely not as hard as 440. But that's the point. An unknown stainless obviously softer than 440 is still hard enough to not leave a mark, unlike Ti.
And you seem to have automatically assumed these Inspirs set of chopsticks are made of Grade 5, but it's not listed anywhere. Their kickstarter page does say "100% pure titanium", which would suggest Grade 1-4.
My Ti set probably are Grade 2, as manufacturers do in fact prefer pure unalloyed Ti for food related products. For example Vargo uses Grade 2 and Snow Peak uses Grade 1.
I definitely won't be holding my breath for you to remember doing anything beyond speculations based on imagination.

The grooved tip is common at noodle restaurants. Disposable chopsticks often don't have grooves because it's cheaper to skip them and the wood usually provides enough friction to hold the food without them. Most metal chopsticks have boxier tips and can get away with not adding grooves, though they tend to pinch through noodles.

Just to clarify, disposable wooden chopstick are an enviromental disaster. 3.8 million trees, to make 57 billion one use chopsticks a year. Finding a re-usable chopstick is a good deed for the planet. KingGhidorah@Aeroknot I personally have a nice set of polymer from Japan. But as you say, KingGhidorah, the article itself points out that 45% of the chopsticks from China are made from "trees" other than bamboo. The remainder (55%) is made from bamboo (which I believe is technically a grass). Not saying 1.9 million is not a lot of trees but it is far from the 3.8.
What is absent from the debate and article is the cost of making chopsticks from other materials. Much like the decry of making plastic shopping bags. I believe there are costs (in terms of the environment) associated with titanium to bring products to market.

Got my chopsticks today. Yes I opted for the black coated. They are a bit smaller than I envisioned. My other pair is no named polymer that are much lighter. Think I paid $15 or so for them. They are Japanese type so you have some idea of what the Inspirs are like. Inspirs are on top.
