G’day Everyone,   As you can see the UHMWPE Stems are now available, here, on Drop. For their first run. I hope that when you receive them you are as happy with them as I am.   For the record: Invyr UHMWPE Stems are my product.   I personally have reached out to the vendors that carried the previous iterations of the stem to see if they would be interested in selling the new and revised version, however, due to projected order numbers and logistics of running a large sale, I saw fit to launch them on Drop based on a timeline that I saw best to get them ready for the community as early as possible   I definitely made some mistakes with lack of communication with my previous vendors. I have attempted to make amends to the best of my ability with those affected.   The moulds for V2 stems were developed by me, with cooperation with manufacturer. I am the sole owner of the moulds. I have paid for the moulds to be made, out of my own expense. At no point were there any previous agreements with any parties for exclusivity nor development (There were discussions, however this did not eventuate).     If you want to discuss anything, reply to this post and I will do my best to answer.   Best Regards, zisb

It's literally basic business practice to QC a product before selling it, no matter where it's from. This reeks of laziness.

You guys screwed over smaller vendors that had been working on this project for a long time, with no notice, in order to sell to people that don't even know what these stems are.

Why would Drop care? Timed exclusivity windows are about as standard as you can get in retail these days. Sounds like Invyr may have misled some vendors, but what does that have to do with Drop taking reasonable and smart actions to build its business?

quantumlock> Drop taking reasonable and smart actions to build its business When has massdrop ever been reasonable and smart? Not in the last two years, to the best of my knowledge. I'd love to see them turn a corner, but this isn't the way to do it.
It's been mod hidden, can you repost what it said?

Hi everyone, Sorry for the delay - we’ve been working hard evaluating different samples and making adjustments to try to get the stems to be amazing. Just so that everyone is on the same page, we’re going to outline the problems with the past stems, the changes we’ve made and the state of the final production stems. To summarize the work so far we identified two major issues with the stems that were sent out to you: Slanted Poles and Undersized Stems. Fixing the sizing of the stem has been a fairly straightforward task, the new stems are 11.9mm compared to the previous versions that were 11.8mm and under. The intention of the increased stem size was to reduce wobble by reducing the amount of space between the housing and the stem. My testing has shown that this definitely has been achieved and the wobble is much better than what was originally sent out.

The more complicated issue that we had to solve is related to the slanted pole. Due to the nature of the materials (plastics, which will always deform slightly when cooling), the length of the pole affects the degree of distorting and slanting- a longer pole will deform/slant more than a shorter pole. After many revisions, we have balanced these parameters to the point where I am happy with it. The pole is no longer becoming slanted, but it does mean that we had to trim the length of the pole slightly. It is still longer than the initial run that was sent out to you, but it isn't the length we were aiming for.
search
Lastly, I want to point out that there’s one cosmetic issue that we noticed: As a part of the fix for the slanted pole that the factory did, it has resulted in the top axis of the stem (the bit that is covered by the keycap) being slightly slanted. It’s hard to notice, but if you scrutinise closely you can see that it isn’t perfectly square.
search
On the brightside, once inside keycaps and fitted into a keyboard it doesn't produce any noticeable misalignment.

These are going into mass production based on the details described above. Discussing the situation with Drop, they’ve decided that everyone involved in the run can either get a full cash refund for their previous purchase, or have their order from the new production batch shipped to them. The default is that you’ll get new stems, but if you email customer support, they can coordinate a refund. We’re hoping to have production complete, and shipments sent out, around May/June 2021. Thanks for everyone’s time and patience on this!

This V2 just suck as much as the previous stems, i have no idea how did you or drop consider this acceptable. You and Drop both ruined your name with this product. Will never buy something related to your name ever again.

Hi Everyone,  This time I have some really good news!  We have been hard at work trying to fix the slanted pole issue, and it seems like our efforts have finally paid off. Pictured below is the photos from the factory.
search
One caveat of achieving this is that the pole is a little bit shorter than we would’ve liked, but is a definite improvement over the original. It should be more in line with Cherry MX height, rather than T1 now. I will go through and get an average height in addition to testing it in a variety of housings to make sure it still functions correctly.  The plan from here is that the factory will send me samples to inspect (they are already on the way as I write this). If everything is okay, and up to standard we will start another production run.  I’ll get back to you as soon as the samples arrive,  zisb

lsterThank you I just submitted a request for a refund, this is beyond ridiculous. Keyboard groub buys are faster than a bloody stem reproduction. Edit: full refund came through

Hey everyone, We've had lengthy communications with Zisb (INVYR) and the Contract manufacturer and discussed different options on how to best move forward and this is ultimately what we're going to do. The manufacturer has accepted responsibility that the product was made out of specification, and Zisb believes that the original design can/should be improved to accomplish a better final product. Zisb will follow up with a post discussing these changes shortly. Zisb will be covering the costs of casting new moulds, and the manufacturer will cover the costs of producing an entire new batch of stems. Drop will be covering the freight and shipping costs to inbound, pack and ship all replacement orders. The moulds are now being made and we've been given priority in the production queue, so we're expecting to be able to ship replacement units to everyone in 6-8 weeks- assuming everything goes smoothly. Moving forward, everyone involved will have two options: A) Wait for the new round of stems to be shipped to you. These will be marked as RMA units with $0 value so there should be no customs or taxes charged on them. B) Request a full cash refund (including shipping charges, but not including duties/taxes/extra costs). Regardless of the option that you choose, all participants will receive a $10 credit on drop.com, it will show up in your account by Oct 28th. If you want option B, email customer service and they'll process the refund, otherwise you will be defaulted to option A. Thanks for your patience on this matter as we sorted everything out. Dec 16th update: See this post: https://drop.com/buy/invyr-uhmwpe-mechanical-switch-linear-stems-v2/talk/2747484 and accompanying thread.

KevinCan you comment as to why your customer service reps didn’t qualify these obviously defective stems as defective and basically told me to shove it until there were hundreds of people complaining? I’d recommend altering your reps training along with retraining them as that is a deplorable early response to this situation.

Hi Everyone,  Update time again. Sorry this one came a little bit later than expected. We have been hard at work trying to fix the issues.  Since last time I spoke we have tried some new inserts in the moulds for the poles, this has alleviated some of the angle deformation, but not completely. I don’t think it’s to the point where we can call it acceptable just yet, however it is a definite improvement. We are going to try a couple more revisions in regards to this. I’ll let you know the results.  This is the before and after from this process:
search
In addition to the pole revisions we are also going to revise the distance between these two faces again:
search
The hope is that a tighter tolerance will keep the stem in a more upright position. It's obviously just a balancing game though, as you know, depending on the housing used the sizes can all be slightly different, resulting in some combinations working better than others. If we push the size of the stem too large then it may not be compatible with some of the smaller switch housings, which would be less than ideal.  Sorry that this has been taking a little longer than expected but I would far rather fix all the issues while we have the chance.  This is a little rundown of the process that we go through each time we make a change to the mould:
  • Proposing the modification to the switch factory and/or discussion about the viability
  • Switch factory contacts the mould factory about changes that need to be made
  • Mould is transported to the mould factory for modification
  • Mould is modified
  • Mould is then transported back to the switch factory where it can be tested
  • Test results are reported to me and then further discussion with switch factory
If something isn't up to standard or wrong it needs to go back through that process which can usually take up to a week, and that on the faster side since we are being given priority at the moment.  I hope this gives you an idea of where we are currently at. We are continuing to work as fast as possible in resolving this issue.  Regards, zisb

Drop is definitely complicit in this, but Invyr should really be the one to blame. Going through known community vendors and members to collaborate, produce, and review the v2 stems, then signing an exclusivity deal with Drop, and NOT TELLING THE VENDORS UNTIL NOW!? That’s bad business. A lot of people won’t care about something like this, but they really should. These vendors are pillars of the community and the reason why this hobby exists in the first place. Going behind their back like that is incredibly unprofessional. At the very least put out a statement and give us the details of how this went down.

Hi Everyone, Thank you for bringing the quality issues with this product to our attention. We’re in contact with Zisb to get a better understanding of what’s going on with this run, along with solutions around how we’re going to make this right. We’ll have an update tomorrow. Stay tuned. 10/20: We’re working with Zisb and are currently in discussion with the manufacturer to correct the issue with the stems. From our analysis, the shipped products are different from the production samples that we received and tested. This could be due to a variety of reasons that we are investigating. We’re still exploring our options to correct the issue and will update the community as soon as we have information to share.

KrystalGardnerhi it's been days since this update and there is no information that is useful for the customers here. I understand that there are differences in timezone and such with manufacturer and all that jazz. It's been over 72 hours and there is legit 0 answer from the manu? Considering we PAID UP FRONT for JUNK THAT IS $20+ PER BAG. Why is it ok for your customers to do that when you guys don't value our time? We waited, we waited patiently, we dealt with all the drama on the way these stems were brought to the market and decided to stick on, only to get screwed and not even get an answer on WHY within the same week of delivery of HUNDREDS of GARBAGE that DROP DOESN'T WANT TO BE RESPONSIBLE FOR. Why is it with this website that patience actually doesn't pay off? "exploring your options and update us as soon as possible", now is that a fact or are you just waiting for people to forget that they legit spent money on GARBAGE and hopefully scam more people in the future for moving products that you don't want to be responsible for?
