Just watched the video--what a load of trendy hype! Hard to tell if they'er trying to sell me a "lifestyle" or a camera bag. Think I'll just stick with my ThinkTanks--more function, less fashion...
I am thinking of getting either a sling or a 13 messenger bag, to carry a a fuji Xt-2 and a couple of lenses on a trip around asia. What would be more comfortable ?
No problem! It's my fault and I misunderstood you were already bringing another backpack with you :)
A few 'negative' notes on the Sling 10L, which, don't get me wrong, is an absolutely fantastic bag; it's still very much the EDM's little brother, unlike the 5L, which is a more refined bag. There's two real 'problems' with the Sling 10: Overloaded (if you, for example, try to use it to lug around a APS-C and some heavy lenses + tablet + other shit), it suffers from two design issues: 1, the adjustment mechanism slides, like it does on the EDM, so you'll have to readjust it on your body. That bothers some people; I don't really mind it on the EDM or EDS10, but YMMV. The second one is the stickler: Peak Design made a trade off for their bags; slide easily, or comfort. They chose the former, and the padded-insert in the mesh can cut into you if you're wearing it heavy / wearing light clothing. I've found the best solution is to use a fashionable seat belt cushion over the strap. You lose a tiny bit of the sliding convenience, but it can be well worth it for the comfort.
The Everyday Sling 5L doesn't suffer from 1 because it uses a completely new adjustment system that I hope that PD is going to bring to future revisions of the EDM and EDS 10L, and the strap is a little nicer and less 'cutty". That being said, it's really only uncomfortable when you load it heavy. And in my personal opinion, the 5L is just too small to be a serious bag for anyone that's not a really casual shooter or a small drone user.
I got the 5L in the last drop and have been using it with my XT1. I'm able to carry the camera, 35 f2, 10-24, and 56 f1.2 together, but that is just about the limit. I don't think I could manage 3 lenses and camera if I swap the 35 for my 23 f1.4. If I was using a capture clip with the camera outside the bag I could easily manage all 4 lenses with room to spare.
I intentionally wanted the smallest possible bag that allows me to take camera plus 1-2 extra lenses, and this fits the bill perfectly. If I wanted to carry additional things beside the camera, or needed room for a flash or other accessory, maybe the 10L would be necessary. But if it's me doing that asia trip I'd probably stick with the 5L and enjoy the reduction in bulk and weight (which, to be honest, is why I went with Fujifilm in the first place).
got the everyday bag 15 today. As Jaysun said, it should be the upgraded v2 bag. However, what I have got is the v1 bag. anyone has the same issue here? Any answer for this? return? exchange? price mach? because many other camera store sell v1 bag for only $199.99 without tax for many states. Thanks
Really wish the peak design backpack has better straps. It is fine without much stuff inside, but when it is loaded with heavy gear it is not that comfortable to wear.
MadDadI do use the sternum strap but doesn't help much. The straps are rigid, creates odd pressure points, doesn't contour well, maybe for some people it does, but not me. I've resorted to just using Osprey backpacks instead.
I feel like I need to buy stock in Peak Design (or ask for sponsorship). Their products are simply outstanding... best in class.
I have 4-5 capture clips (with lens kit & bino kit), 2 slides, a slide lite, 2 clutches, a shell, a 15" everyday messenger (kickstarter), a 10L sling, a range pouch and got my wife a tote.
I've ended up selling all my old camera bags (canon, lowepro & tamrac) and can't imagine ever purchasing a camera bag that isn't from Peak going forward.
I wish they would branch out to work/business bags... a messenger bag geared toward the workplace would be awesome.
dasmanHey Dasman,
Did your get the tote here at Massdrop or at PeakDesign? Could you remind me the prize of Tote Bag at Massdrop? I am wondering if I should wait for another drop here at Massdrop or just grab the 10% offer on PeakDesign website.
JaysunSure! Peak Design is actually aware of this (They've mentioned on their product forums) so I don't think there's anything 'wrong' with me sharing it. After about a year or two of intense wear, the back / bottom portion of the backpack starts to deteriorate and can start staining clothes. It's both the padding as well as the meshy slip for sliding it over a suitcase. As far as I can tell, this is pretty rare, and usually only happens if you use them for hiking with the waist strap commonly, as I think it's probably a high torsion / friction situation which causes it. IIRC, this is covered by the PD warranty and they've replaced them for free as far as I can tell, and none of their other products (EDM, EDS 5/10, EDT) have this issue.
That being said, they've added 4 EDB SKUs since this problem arose (Huckberry & Leica limited SKUs and the EDB20L Tan and Black), so they may have fixed this issue. I know a number of their products have undergone 'secret' (unadvertised) revisions to improve them based on initial feedback; for example, the EDM switching to the new-style flexfold.
