Available first on Massdrop, the LTA MZ2-S is a high-end Class-A tube amplifier for your headphones that is also a preamp, tweeter amp, or high-efficiency speaker amp. It's an update on the company’s MicroZOTL2 based on user feedback. A revised circuit allows the use of high-quality NOS tubes while using the same ZOTL (zero-hysteresis output transformer-less) technology. Upgrades include NOS RCA 12SN7GTA tubes and a mil-spec variant of the 12AT7, the 6201 tube—selected based on customer feedback—and thicker, PCBs with double copper traces. The MZ2-S could be considered as a MicroZOTL2 that has already had its tubes rolled. These tubes are equivalent in sound signature to the 6SN7s, but require twice the voltage and half the current.
UPDATE: A switch with a third input can be added for an additional $35. Input 3 will be wired to the center position of a three-way switch that looks the same as the current input switch; inputs 1 and 2 will still correspond to the marked positions. This switch will allow users to toggle between the Input 3 option.
UPDATE #2: The MZ2-S will come standard with an upgraded power supply with a significantly higher-quality regulator.
The MZ2-S comes equipped with a preamp output, two inputs selectable using the front switch, and an external power supply that makes for an extremely low noise floor. Every MZ2-S is equipped with a headphone jack that disables the preamp and speaker outputs. Capable of driving all types of dynamic and planar headphones of any impedance, it’s also great for driving speakers in a small room or desk setup (so long as the speaker has a sensitivity of 90 dB or higher). Plus, you’ll be among the first to get your hands on it—and even among the first to know it’s on the market. All members who order the MZ2-S will receive it before it is available for sale on LTA’s website.
All MZ2-S have anodized black faceplates white LED power buttons, and silvery steel screws on the top. All units purchased through the exclusive Massdrop release will also receive a set of gold-colored brass screws
