I'm getting the feel this is another "priced by location" piece. Teflon washers on anything above $40 is absurd.

No doubt better action with bearings. And ceramic better than steel bearings. But in dusty environments like the warehouse I work in lube attract the dust like crazy. Plus bearing are the easy cheap way out to get good action for a lot of companies. Got good action and washers you have a well made knife with great tolerances.

I would go with a Ganzo G720 for $16.99 shipped free from numerous sites in China. Ganzo dominates the ultra-budget, yet "real knife" sector of the market (plus they are fun to collect). Even with shipping from China, you will get it sooner that this Italian "stud" in this drop.

Ganzo knives are the best knives in the history of the world. No other knife company even comes close.

Love this. Chose the red(more on burgandy side). Bit small in my big hands. Only one problem is now I want more lion steel knives. Will definitely debate on which one to pick up. Great all I need is more knives to feed my addiction....could be worse I guess.

Take a look @ the SR-11. Which looks like they took they SR-1 and made it a flipper and replaced washers with Ball Bearing.

Mine was really hard to open. I took it apart and found bits of metal and some rather grimy lube. After cleaning the action is much better and I can flick it open like the video. Overall I like the knife a lot. If MD could get the new SR-11 for a good price I'd pick one up.
I took a picture of some metal chunks that were embedded in the washers:

The photos for this knife don't show a full view of both sides of the blade. Does this knife come with a Massdrop logo?

You are saying that the logo is a dealbreaker for you in one breath, and in the next saying that you never really liked the designs and that's why you aren't interested.
Either way, your weird tirade against me for daring to converse with you in a discussion board is enough for me, you have yourself a normal one bud.

OmniseedOnce again, you have misrepresented what I said, twisting my words into what you want them to be, rather than what I actually said.
I am going to give you the benefit of the doubt, and assume that you read some of the posts that other people made in this discussion of LION STEEL knives, and mistakenly attributed them to me. That's the only way that I can keep from thinking you're a complete < profanity not used here for civility >.
You may want to re-read the posts in this discussion, and pay careful attention to the ones that I posted, and the ones I did not.

KaozerYea. You’re so right. I find most of my knife friends and contacts are in The US...so I have few compatriots where I live. Same problem out your way?

Disassembly: (Note the handle is made of buttery soft aluminum... don't force anything and be careful not to scratch it. The washers are somewhat soft and delicate too.)
The captive pivot unscrews from the presentation side (not the side with the stop pin screw). There is threadlocker ... you may need to heat the screws (but not so hot that it softens the washers). I heated to a surface temperature of 150°F
search

The easiest way to remove the blade is to remove the stop pin, rotate the blade so it's pointing all the way up, then insert something between the scales to wedge them apart a tiny bit wider than the blade+washers. I used a stack of blank ID cards (they are handy for various wedging/spudging/scraping tasks). Don't use any sharp tools to poke around.
search

Now you can clean everything. You could measure the washers at this point if you want to swap them. But I'm not sure it's a good idea to put metal washers next to soft aluminum, and the design of the handle puts the blade under constant pressure so it probably wouldn't be much smoother.
Reassembly:
Procure a plastic, teflon, or wooden rod about 5mm in diameter and cut it so it is just slightly taller (0.2mm-0.5mm) than than the washer/blade "sandwich". I used part of an old pinwheel toy.
search

Lube the washers if you want (I have no idea what lube, if any, is best for Teflon washers, I went with a little silicone lube). Also lube the detent track if you like. Assemble the sandwich on the rod and just slide everything into the knife until the rod falls out of the pivot hole. It'll be pretty snug going in, but that's okay, all the friction should be on the rod and not the washers.
search

Reassemble with new threadlocker. Put the little rod somewhere (maybe in the knife's box) so you can use it again later.
search

My knife was full of gunky lube and metal shavings (pieces of metal were even embedded in the washers). I was not able to flick open the knife open until I cleaned it.

PNWNativeYeah, hindsight I probably should've went with Teflon lube. I have some SuperLube products which are safe to use on pretty much everything.

Got in on this drop the last time around. Chose the red one. Basically it's like a sexy scarlet. Ooooo, is it pretty.
Honestly, IMO, for $99, you will never purchase a knife which feels better or looks nicer. As far as practicality is concerned, sure, there are better options out there for EDC, but this is just a great knife to own. You'll want to EDC it simply for the fact that you love it. Those with ginormous mits may not be a huge fan of the grip, but the majority of you out there shouldn't have a problem. Deployment is just fine with the washers provided, see my earlier video posted here. Though some other guys noted a few problems.
WORD FOR THE WISE: Don't disassemble. Unless you have the exact same size washers on hand, it's best to just leave it alone. Nick Shabazz is a little dramatic with his video, but he's not too far off the mark. It's not worth the hassle. I just went a week with my SR2 sitting on the shelf because I wanted to clean mine out a bit, which resulted in tearing/bending one of the washers. I just received the replacement washers in the mail today(4 different sizes of them). I went with bronze this time, and so far, so good, though no marked improvement by any means over the regular washers.
Part of me wants to buy another one of these babies to give as a gift, or maybe just hold on to? After seeing the red in person, I imagine the orange probably looks stunning.

WayoftreadYeah, and that's why the Butterfly Tax is trash. They don't want you opening or maintaining your own knives, which is a bit fucked given their spotty quality control.

omg that rabbit hole... My wife asked me to get her a pocket knife for a birthday present. If only i had known how deep a rabbit hole she was leading me into... for 3 weeks i´ve been researching the hole knife topic now. Buying a Kizer for a birthday present for my wife, and two pocket knifes (incl. this one) from massdrop for myself outta shear fascination for the whole topic... Damn....

The cure is get a budget knife, Ganzo ,or other. use it sharpen it then ask yourself why pay more for a knife when these work fine. Try kitchen knives they get used more. Try ceramic blades.

I want one these...I love the Handle and Blade... but I don't know about that little wheel that keep the blade in check seems like it could be a real nuisance... I read a few people mention it as a major problem while others don't make much of it... so I don't know what to think! Any of guys have a Lionsteel with this feature? What is your experience!!

Lionsteel does makes an awesome knife, I have the SR1 aluminum, SR1 Titanium with damascus blade and just recently found the SR11 Titanium Sleipner flipper. Once you handle the new Lionsteel flipper models, these older SR1 and SR2 models seem to completely lose their appeal. I have larger hands and the SR11 fits me very well...this SR2 is just too small but may be ideal for the gentleman with smaller hands. Do yourself a favor and check out Lionsteel's new flipper models (SR11, SR22) these new models are way better!

theglobesurferMy hands are XL. Though I love the design and the steel used and the fact that it is an integral or monoblock handle, it is too small and too slippery in my hands for me to be happy. And as a PS for people trying to use the rotolock to keep it closed...it is a very simple device only designed to keep it open so you are not concerned that the lock failing (which would take some crazy bad luck to have happen anyways). I have never heard of anyone having an issue with rotolock except here on this forum so maybe these are from the ‘delete bin’??? Who knows but it is a much-awarded design and iconic for the brand (and apparently from a small-handed part of the world). (No, that was NOT a Trump joke! It just seems an unreasonably uncomfortable wield for a big hand.)
