RayFWell I was one of those and don't consider myself desperate at all. It's not like LKS is a "fly by night" company. There were plenty of reviews on the product and Shenzen Audio and Amazon carry their line, so I don't think it's as risky as you imply. I've been VERY happy with the purchase.
I was about to pull the trigger on this, but then saw this video demo of it: https://youtu.be/VJ_Ozg-aSoQ
To my ears it sounds hyper-detailed and harsh, with attack being over-emphasized. The sound just isn't musical. But then some people thought it sounds wonderful, so i guess to each his own... Can anyone with this DAC confirm that this is the way it sounds in your system?
vad007So the bottom line is that this is a DAC. More so than any other major component in your listening chain, a DAC shouldn’t have any “sound” of its own at all. It should just be converting ones and zeroes into the artist’s original analog waveform.
If you’re seriously in the market, I’d recommend popping over to audiosciencereview and checking out any DAC on their master test list with a SINAD above 115 or so that meets your preferences regarding price point, feature set, build quality, etc. It will transparently do what it’s supposed to do where conversion is concerned with no demo’ing required.
vad007Reports of both have been on line. I believe their both premium quality caps, so no worries there. I just smile at such a drop in price, $825 for a dac of this pedigree is pretty special!
